This is what happens when QWOP couldn't make it as an athlete and decided to become a doctor.

This game was actually made in 48 hours as part of a Global Game Jam contest. Actually pretty impressive that they can make a game like this in the same amount of time it took Atari to make ET.

First time through - delicately cut the ribs with the manual bonesaw, carefully remove and toss the ribs, along with excess lungs, cut the arteries with a scalpel, throw the bad heart away, plop new heart in and win.

Second time through - take a hammer, smash the ribs and lungs loose to expose heart, cut arteries with bonesaw, throw new heart in, win.

I think it's worth noting that you can throw the new heart away and nothing will happen. The surgery will continue, but your patient will die.

I had that happen in a latter playthrough without really noticing. It was only when I got everything out that I noticed the new heart was on the floor. Oh well, time to jab the saw in.

Well, I've tried it and failed miserably. For some reason, whenever I grip something like the hammer, I have a hard time moving the arm. I also fail with the Bone Saw. >_<

I had a few problems with the saw and clipboard, the most notable one being that the clipboard got stuck around the guy's arm.

Oh boy, a "full" version of the game will be coming to Steam!

New features include more surgeries (such as kidney and brain transplants), a new workplace of the back of a moving ambulance, and more fun tools to play with including this power drill.

More info on their facebook page.

Cracking open a skull to remove a brain, riding in the back of an ambulance with everything flying around, and tools to make things go spinny in a bloody mess. What could possibly go wrong? Also this leads me to believe we can probably set the patient on fire.

Ooh, I hope it's fairly cheap or makes it in one of those Indie Bundles.

It's been released!

It's currently on sale for $7.

Stuff from the game:
*The standard heart surgery has some new stuff, including the stomach in your way. Also, there is now a syringe with medicine that when given to the patient stops and slows blood loss. However, don't prick yourself with it or you'll be doing surgery while on an acid trip.
*New surgery involves you having to remove and replace both kidneys. In order to get to them, you need to rip out the entire digestive system (intestines and stomach). Also, laser to play with!
*Brain surgery, you crack the skull like an egg. The brain can then flop around loosely while you try to cut the cord (easily done with the laser). This one was actually easy compared to the others.
*Thought those previous ones were fun? Try them in the back of a moving ambulance! Bumps and tight turns are all felt as you watch everything fly around. The back doors also swing open and shut, so make sure the new heart doesn't fly out the back!

I was wondering if that could happen while watching the trailer. Thanks for clearing it up.

Can you at least pick stuff up off the ground now? I remember in the demo that once something fell it was gone, and I even failed a surgery simply because I dropped the heart.

Nope, once it's gone it's gone (there is an achievement for doing that with all the tools in the brain surgery level).

I played around with GreenMan's copy a bit. Personally, it's a bit too buggy right now and seems like it can be frustrating if it glitches out when you technically have finished. It's a pretty novel game, but that novelty will wear out pretty quickly, so I'm not getting it now.

Here are two screenshots for your enjoyment, though.

Have you ever tried grabbing a drill by the chuck? It likes to spin around.

I actually managed to lose all of the tools, including the laser. The cable got stuck behind this monitor and was out of reach.

His losing the laser followed me getting my hand stuck and spending 5 minutes trying to get it out, to have the surgery fail even though I put the blasted heart where it belonged and got everything cleared out. Very frustrating.

Time for another play session.

I think the model for the drill is a little "screwed" up.

The radio not only turned the laser off, but it got stuck inside the machine.

Alright, I have to explain this one. This is perhaps one of the most luck-involved successes I've had with any video game. Early on, I lost the heart and bone saw off the front. When I was trying to grab the green needle to help the patient, the ambulance hit a bump and caused the needle to poke me, sending the game into drugged up mode, making it extremely difficult. I subsequently lost the blue needle off the front of the screen. I was forced to use the laser to remove most of the ribs. When I had to cut the esophagus off, the blue needle managed to fly forward and prick my arm, allowing me to see everything clearly again. I was able to slowly complete the rest of the surgery when the heart re-appeared and played nicely. I managed to get both the Mother Hen (lose none of the tools out the back of the ambulance) and One With The Speed Bumps (lose less than 2,000 ml of blood on the ambulance heart transplant) achievements for GreenMan.
