Pokémon Black and White → I member of Rocket (Broken-speech Rocket guy is back)

Any folks remember the guy on the "Nugget Bridge" in Kanto who spoke with awful grammar? Well, he returns in Black and White! He can only be found in Sekka City during the winter, at the southernmost house.

Quote:
Interestingly, even in kanji mode, that's exactly how it comes out: everything in broken katakana and hiragana. For those able to read it, imagine an American trying to speak Japanese *looks at self*.

Rough translation, retaining the poor grammar:
Oh! I am member of Team Rocket! Long ago, Team Rocket go missing. So, I return my country and make Team Rocket! And I took oath! To go home and get married at that place instead. Oh, congratulations happy family!

Every English teacher on the planet just had a heart attack and died.

Seriously, though, that's hilarious. Anyone think this will turn into a running gag in the video games from this point on?

Awesome.

So Black and White takes place far enough in the future for Gen II/IV to be considered "long ago." Interesting.

Haaaaa... That's funny. I can't wait to see how this comes out in the US. Probably the same broken grammar that we did see at Nugget Bridge. It didn't take you long to find that little Easter egg, huh?

I found him earlier this morning. I totally had a "JAD" moment!
I had quite the trouble understanding him due to his horrific grammar, which just messes up someone still learning!
EDIT: I just thought of this, but doesn't this guy remind you of a certain someone on the forums?
I'll let you guys figure out who!

I don't get the point of him returning if he's not gonna do anything after foreshadowing in the last game.

It's just a little Easter egg, not necessarily an important part of the game.

I think he's just in there to show the huge gap in years since HG/SS.
Although he doesn't explain an exact number I'd guess maybe around 10 years or so.

Is he saying Unova's his home country? And that he... founded Team Rocket... after it disbanded?

I'm confus.

Either he's referencing to the first incident where Red broke them up, or the later one where the player breaks them up and that he's plannng on making another Team Rocket.

I'm assuming he got an F- in English (Or Japanese, whatever) class.

He said he was going to his home country in HeartGold and SoulSilver, as well.

I love references to previous games in games, they're funny when you find them! :3

Well, this is interesting, I wonder how long it has been in between games.

I look forward to seeing him in the American Black and White, Because I can't read Japanese.

Oh how I love references to older games in a series! (even if its just by a few years). I hope Game Freak does more stuff like this, and I'm glad they did it for such a minor side-character, not something blatant like Red or Prof. Elm.

Unova is his home country and he plans on reforming Team Rocket. Ever since the first ship screenshot for BW was released I thought the "veteran" sprite was a Rocket Grunt and I spazzed out thinking 2 team again, Plasma and Rockets. Maybe he is foreshadowing again, maybe the 3rd game will be a twist with that or something.

I really like it when Game Freak includes references to older Pokémon games. It makes me feel that everything is related in the Pokémon world despite the different regions and the distances between them (especially Unova).

If this member of Team Rocket was from Unova, and he had broken speech in HG/SS because Unova and Kanto speak two different languages, then shouldn't he speak regularly in this game?

That would be so awesome!

Which is why I seriously doubt it'll happen.

That's a nice reference. I never thought something like that would happen.

I was expecting it when he said something about his home country and we were getting to know bit by bit of BW so I was suspecting something. If he plans on rebuilding Team Rocket I wonder how things will go for future games or remakes.

Not trusting my fail Japanese skills, I was somewhat intimidated even by this.

But upon closer inspection.. Intimidation. Gone.

Watashi, memba ovu roketto dan.. Epic xD

I had to smile a bit when I saw that in White. That really helped drive in the fact that these games will probably be the best games since Gold/Silver (I'm thinking they're even better than them, tbh). It's kinda like when I found the Magikarp Salesman in the postgame.

Oh Game Freak, take my money!

Oh gog how did I miss this thread.
That guy was hilarious even back in the original G/S.

Such a shame B/W won't be in my budget any time soon.

I'm doubting anyone has met the English-speaking one yet, but if anyone time travels, let us know.

It's good to see the broken-speech "Rocket Grunt" again. Even though he was a nuisance in HG/SS, it felt good to see him again for some reason.

I just took a quick trip into Winter to check in with him:
"Oh! Member of Team Rocket I was, long time gone! But Team Rocket bye-bye a go-go. I my region went home. Make new Team Rocket, I did! So myself I pledged! But now I married am. Now for Team Rocket there is no time by me. But happy family is big hooray!"

Awesome.

This means that Team Rocket will never come again, unlike what we predicted from before. I am glad he gave up on the idea, since I don't want to fight a boss who barely say a proper word.

Looking at Nin's post, I went back and re-translated the original text and made two small (but major) changes:

Oh! I am member of Team Rocket! Long ago, Team Rocket go missing. So, I return my country and make Team Rocket! And I took oath! To go home and get married at that place instead. Oh, congratulations happy family!

The word "not" was also removed before "get married."

I skipped a month and visited this guy today.

Judging by the fact that he has a son, I'd say this game takes place somewhere between 10-15 years after HGSS.
