First off, I need to get this out of my system: "Why so serious?"
Whew. Okay. I was skimming through the General Roleplay section and noticed the active ones are a little spammy and could pass off as spam-games. (In fact, I may close/move some.) I asked Cat about a serious roleplay section and he was suprisingly in favor of the idea. I'm just worried that it'll be a waste. For example, when I first came here, I posted three RPs. Only one got any feedback, and I think that was due to the Pokemon-theme... However, I'm not a big fan of how the people who joined types (either poor speller or bad grammer).
This thread's purpose is to gather feedback on who would be interested in a Serious Roleplay sub-forum. I notice some activity in the "mature" roleplaying, but I don't want to resort to that section in hopes for a worthwhile roleplay.
I'm in for this. But could you please clarify what you mean by "serious" roleplay, maybe give a short example or two?
I'll read some of the existing roleplays after this post to see what you mean by them being spammy.
EDIT: Only had to look at the lone mudkip to see. That's more of a "One sentence story" than a "roleplay".
They're not even using full sentences for the most part.
I'm willing to open and host a Roleplaying school. I think people are under the influence that it's just a silly game, but if serious RPers came here and saw it, there would be so many flames, the forum would catch on fire!
It's not just a simple continue the story. You should come up with at least one character, develop a history about them, and more or less become that person. I'll go into detail later, but I'm on short time. I have over 100 different characters to use for examples. I can post their details (in spoilers) later today.
Honestly, I would prefer something other than Pokemon-themed RP.

This seems interesting. I believe Shadow and I experienced such a thing as a Pokémon Ranger RPG thread. I am in it!

Lookie, everyone. It's not perfect and I need to finish it, but I was able to find this: Hidden Realm -- How To Roleplay. It's from my forum. I wrote it all, so it's not stolen at all.
It was just a How-To Guide I was writing up. If you need something more rule-like, I can make something up. The link I posted was to take RP noobs to RP novices.
People who has never done this will need some practice. On the plus side, it will help with writing skills and creativity. And I already said I would host an RP School for those who read the How-To Guide and doesn't really understand. I know there's visionary learners and textile learners. Some learn best by actually doing.
It's a nice idea to have a serious RP, a role play that acts out a story of possible action or whatever genre it is. Yes, the idea for how-to's and rules is helpful for those new to RPs. Even having non-pokemon based RPs are a good idea because not everyone is interested in the pokemon concept. But on the subject of actually doing it, who is going to do an RP and who is going to write along with it?
Sometimes an RP board doesn't get used as much as it was desired, hardly any RPs might go on during these cases. If you wish to still have a try, go ahead, RPing might be quite fun for a lot of people here.

Should I make a group for that? If I put it on the forums, it could get messy with random people randomly posting just for the heck of it. Or will the unserious people be unable to post in it? I really want to start some mock thread(s) so everyone can see how I'll be approaching this.
Well, here's my thoughts:
You can make the sub-forum for it. I can post those RP Guidelines for anyone who needs them. If some are having trouble, I can host a social group so I can work with them one-on-one.
Honestly, it's not that hard. It's just like writing a story, only you have control over your characters. I think the hardest part for noob-RPers is developing their characters, since they want to make them all powerful and perfect. I can tell you, my characters are not perfect. They may be a little Mary Sue, but they are so flawed up, it's a miracle they don't just fall and combust on impact. ![]()

The board is quite nice. Once you finish posting the guidelines, I will be waiting for an RP from you, Jason. I have a question though, how exactly should the player get an image of the character he imagined? It is really hard to bring one, unless you want to draw it.
