I'm playing a gamecube game on my wii, and since I don't have a memory card yet, I have to leave it on (Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. I'm already on the boggly tree without saving, level 7) I was wondering how long I can leave it on before it shuts itself off; I have a boxfan set on 1 pointed closely as possible to the back fan. I might turn it on higher if I can find some more blankets.
Yeah, I know that they make console specific coolers. If I had that, that'd pretty much destroy the purpose because then I'd have the money for a memory card. Just wondering if there are any methods besides the obvious (keeping a good fan on) that you might use. Or just share some expiriences, etc. Yes, may fan works. Just as a precaution.
I did find my wii on one time, I forgot I left it plugged in when I shoved it in a plastic bag, I heard it running once I turned my 360 off (funny huh?) and immediatly turned it off.
For the sake of arceus, please don't turn it off, Ninty. I want to beat. this. game.
I concur with Yoshi. Go to a GameStop, or comparable used game store, and simply start hunting for a medium-sized card. One of the most commonly recycled memory cards are those used for Animal Crossing [I think it was fifty blocks or so], which was bundled with launch-release games. They're micro-seriously-tiny, made for Animal Crossing alone. I have one, but I'm currently using it.
If that doesn't tickle your fancy, I concur with Yoshi once more. Wiis can typically be left on for long periods of time, but I have experienced somewhat of an off-balance noise with my first Wii, which sounds exactly like an off-balance fan, although I know for a fact that it is the disc drive.
tl;dr Go get a card if you need, or don't. I would if I were you though, as it would open your possibilities. You could get Skies Of Arcadia, Phantasy Star Online [You don't need net on it in order to play it], and other wicked Gamecube games. :3
If I could do that, I would have already. (Silly me, I forgot to pick it up when I got my disk swapped in the first place!)
The ingame clock ticks with inactivity as well, so it's been on for 12:46 Hours as of 9:29 AM Eastern. Woot. Also sad face that Sega took down Phantasy Star's servers.
The only problem I've had with an overheating console is my very old Gamecube. After years of gaming, it now sometimes gives in if it's worked too hard. I suggest you get a Memory Card as soon as you can, via Ebay, GameStop, or whatever. Do you have any friends that may have one you can borrow?

I like the challenge, though. I grinded a lot. I'm at lvl 11 and just completed chapter 3. The in game clock reads 21:58
Maybe I'll get one Wednesday, hopefully, this time. I got to be careful and make sure I don't screw up.
Now the room is really hot, so everything's on max and I feel the wii from time to time. I'm also taking the disk out whenever I'm not playing so maybe that will consume less energy.
The main cpu in the wii can take around 80oC however it most likely has a shutoff around 70oC(based on the fact cpu/gpu is ati and there gpu can go up to this range) in case of dust or fan failure. Accept for the case of the xbox360 after-market coolers are a waste. A simple can of air now and then will be all you need to keep it running smoothly.
Just so you know the 70˚C that KYA said is 158˚F, so you can probably leave it on for days. Though you probably should get some sort of memory card. Look on the back of your game case for how many blocks you need to save, then buy a memory card that's extremely small, but big enough for all of the save data. If you have a memory card but it's full, put it in a friend's GameCube (assuming you don't have one) with no disc inserted. In the menu, go to "Manage memory card" or whatever it says (I haven't used my GameCube in so long) and delete some unneeded data. Then put it in the Wii and save. You may even be able to do that part through a Wii, but of course not your own.
