I love TTYD. The orignal was super and was the reason why I purchased the sequel. It took everything n64 had and just made it better. I want to play it again so bad. I bought one of two copies from gamestop and it won't boot, so I'm taking it back and hoping the other copy will boot. I don't have a memery card as of now (a story I don't want to tell because it hurts), but I don't care if I have to leave my Wii on, I will play it.
So, let's just discuss it in general. Start it off with...hm....what's your favorite, most memorable track? Final boss, of course, there needs to be more remixes of this. Ah, Thousand Year Door. While I have yet to fully play through the original and haven't even played Super Paper Mario (yet) I really love TTYD. I must have played through it at least 3-4 times by now. My favorite chapters to play through are 3 (the Glitz Pit with a bunch of battles (and the requirements spice things up a bit) and you get the most awesome partner ever) and 6 (meliek trains). And the in-between chapter parts where you get to play as Bowser on the SMB levels is pretty awesome. My favorite songs would have to be the intro, title screen, Hook/Gloom/Bonetail battle, Glitz Pit, Dooplis battle, Mario shooting to the moon, the song that plays between the two parts of the final battle, the final battle, and the ending credits. I've actually had more of a tough time with Sir. Grodus before the final battle because those mini-yux things keep shielding him (oh, and then immediately afterword you get to fight Bowser/Kammy, but if you leveled off from Grodus then it isn't a big deal). In my main file I just need to go through the Pit of 100 Trials again to get all the tattle logs I missed and I will have done every thing possible in the game.
I've heard that the American translation is better than the original Japanese... which is pretty dang impressive. I do adore the game myself: I have beaten the final boss 3 times now, while having skipped it the first time and now on another playthrough. On my best file, I'm at Level 32 and got to Level 90 in the Pit of Hundred Trials (I decided against going further).
The music and places in the game were slightly disappointing to me compared to Paper Mario N64: while this game is still so much better, I found the places to be worse on par. (The Glitz Pit was definitely better, and the Train was too, but other than that.)
Oh, and did I mention awesome translation?
TTYD is my favorite gamecube game of all time. There were great sidequests, a deep plot, awesome characters, favorable Difficulty, The original was good too, but it can't compare to TTYD. Super Paper Mario was a disappointment. The biggest reason I loved Paper Mario was the RPG gameplay. And actual partners. None of that vPixl crap.

I actually recently finished my 4th playthrough of PM:TYD a day or two ago. I think I finished it in a little over 20 hours, my Yoshi was blue and it was named Yoshi648.

Mine was green, kind of orangish. I just named him...Link. 8D With the screenshots of Paper Mario 3DS, I think it's safe to say it will return to the turn based battle system (seeing the star with a number on it, indicating damage was done) and we might have a chain chomp of sorts as a partner, seeing how he stands beside him. I don't care if it's 3D, there's just two reasons I want it: 1. Turn based, and 2: It's Paper Mario we're talking about, now.
The Yoshi in my current save is a black one named Charcoal (reference to the shiny Charizard) and my other save had a red one that I named Boshi (while it would have made more sense if it was blue, it was still a SMRPG reference).
And I also look forward to the new one coming out on the 3DS.
I just got my copy swapped for a working copy, woot. Too bad I can't save. If there wasn't a tourney I signed up for, I'd keep my wii on, unless mah mom will buy one before then, but it's cool. Maybe I'll just use gecko (home-brew cheating application) the way through, no saving though. Who knows, maybe there might be some easter eggs of sorts.
