Announcements → Shoddy Battle & Pokémon Online can be used in the Gym League!

After a discussion with the other GL staff members, we decided to announce that Shoddy Battle & Pokémon Online can now be used along with Wi-Fi in the Gym League.

Currently, for Shoddy Battle, we will be using Smogon server, or any server the Gym Leader prefer. We will see later on if Cat can have his own server in Shoddy Battle.

For those who would like to download Shoddy Battle, please visit www.shoddybattle.com and run it then. However, you need Java in order to run it. You can then register in the server and log in. The server also allows you to create the team you want.

As for Pokémon Online, please visit www.***************.eu to download the simulator. Once there, simply choose the interface you're using on your computer (i.e Windows or Mac), and the download automatically starts. There's no need for registration.


However, there are still things that need to be considered. While using these simulators, the Rotom appliances, Giratina's Original Forme and Shaymin's Sky Forme cannot be used.

I just downloaded Shoddy Battle and, unless I am mistaken, it looks like you CAN use Roton and its appliance forms, in addition to Giratina Origin and Sky Shaymin.

True. However, in real life, using the Rotom appliances, Giratina-O & Shaymin Sky Forme is considered as cheating, as you need a code to use them. Therefore, using them in the Gym League is not allowed, and will be considered as a break of the rules.

Moreover, I would like all the gym leaders who are interested in introducing Shoddy Battle in their gyms to announce that.

Can you explain? Do you need the code to use them over Wi-Fi, or...? All of the items and forms have been available in Japan and the U.S. through *official* Nintendo events for several months.

Here is an explanation:

In real life, i.e, WiFi club, you need a code of AR (Action Replay) in order for you to use Giratina-O, Shaymin Sky Forme & Rotom appliances while battling. This is because as soon as you get Giratina-O, the sky forme of Shaymin or any form of Rotom appliances to the WiFi room, these Pokémon will get back to their original forme. However, in Shoddy Battle, and specifically the Smogon server, you can use any of these three Pokémon in their others formes. In order to make the gym battles as legal as possible, these three are forbidden to use except for their original formes, as if you use them in real life, they will be considered as hacking/cheating. I hope you understood my point.


I also wanted to explain that I chose Smogon server because it has HG/SS moves and support all kind of ladders (NU/UU/OU/Ubers).

Currently, Shoddy Battle is official. I have to download and test this simulator, and then discuss it with the other GL staff members before giving the answer.

If I can get a working video card for the server I have sitting in my bedroom, I may just be able to run a server for this. Unfortunately, finding a video card for it is going to be tough considering that Sun Microsystems doesn't make servers anymore.

I'm extremely glad that this addition has received positive acceptance, and I hope that the gyms' activity rises due to it. Also, I've prepared a couple more plans which, I think, will be great for the Gym League. I'll be discussing them with the GL staff members as soon as I come back from vacation.

As soon as I return, I, along with the other GL staff members, will test it and compare it with Shoddy Battle. Until then, Shoddy Battle is going to be used.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Since Salamence has been moved to the Uber tier by Smogon, it is not eligible for usage in the Gym League anymore. It will be removed from the standard Shoddy Battle ladder soon, so it cannot be used there as well.

With special thanks to TheRagingTyranitar for the suggestion, it has been agreed that Pokémon Online can now be used alongside Shoddy Battle in the Gym League. A gym leader is allowed to use any or neither of the two simulators as he/she wishes, but Pokémon Online is the recommended choice because it outclasses Shoddy Battle in just about everything.

I don't think it really matters, as long as you're battling. Usually Beta Server is the busiest and the one people use most.

As for using that, I thank you. It is indeed much nicer than Shoddy.

Piexing, a member here, has a server for Pokemon Online called DR. KITTENS. I say we use that server.
