I agree with both of you. Ninjas would absolutely own Pirates for several different reasons. Better weapons, stealth, elusiveness, Agility and Speed etc...

There is just no contest between the two. Why don't you try Gladiators and Spartans or Samurai and Monks? Maybe then it will be a contest.

What pirates lack in intelligence they make up for in sheer brutality, strength, and raw firepower. When you show me a ninja carrying around a cannon with explosives, get back to me.
Pirates are also good in most enviroments. Trained on the high seas, with no sure footing, they have to be really agile to adapt to the ship. Put them on good ground and you've got a wrecking force.

One Piece/Naruto really isn't a fair comparison of Pirates and Ninjas considering ninjas like Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto Uzumaki, Itachi Uchiha, Madara Uchiha, etc... would probably own everyone in One Piece. That is just my opinion considering they have some of the most unbelievable abilities in anime today.

I still would choose Ninjas over Pirates, even though it is true that Pirates are good in most environments. This is because ninjas learn to adapt to wherever they are during a fight. This is when intelligence comes in handy. Interesting though... I would love to see a Naruto character (Ninja) fight against a One Piece character (Pirate).

Actually I fully understand. Yes, ninjas are assassins. If anyone goes against the master or leader, they get punished for it. It is just that simple. I think that movie "Ninja Assassin" portrayed ninjas the best in the more recent movies. Most people think that there are both ninjas in Japan and China but that is not the case at all.

A ninja or Shinobi is or was a covert agent or mercenary of fuedal Japan specializing in an unorthodox arts of war. The functions of the ninja included espionage, sabotage, infiltration, and assassination, as well as open combat in certain situations. The ninja, using covert methods of waging war, were contrasted with the samurai, who had strict rules about honor and combat.

So yeah, I meant to comment on it earlier, but someone said ninjas just stab you from behind or have to sneak up on the person they have to kill, but that is not true. If you know what OPEN COMBAT is, you should know why that statement earlier was false. Ninjas style is so diverse. They can kill you several different ways but Pirates cannot. Their style focuses on straightforwards, (much like Gladiators or Spartans), but with no such armor. So if a Pirate was to face a ninja, it would really be no contest. Pirates focus too much on one attribute if you ask me which is Brute Force and/or power.

In the traditional real life sense, pirates are much cooler, so that's what I'm voting for. However, Ninja movies are better than Pirate movies, and the same holds true with Anime (Naruto>One Piece).

I have found a way to make pirates equal to ninjas. With spoilers.
In The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Tetra, the captain of a band of pirates venturing to defeat the Helmaroc King, was obviously a pirate like I just said. Later in the game, it is revealed that BIG SPOILERS she is Princess Zelda in disguise.
And with that, Wind Waker Zelda is more or less a descendant of the Princess Zelda in Ocarina of Time. Zelda in OoT was also SPOILERS Sheik, a guardian sent to watch over Zelda. But since Sheik WAS Zelda, that pretty much ruins the whole guardian thing.
Sheik frequently used Deku Nuts as a means to instantly vanish, a technique commonly associated with ninjas. Therefore, pirates are more or less related to ninjas.

tl;dr version:
Pirate = Tetra
Tetra = Zelda
Zelda = OoT Zelda
OoT Zelda = Sheik
Sheik = Ninja
Therefore Pirate = Ninja

Well, it seems that the ninja won this one. By the votes on the poll. And this has been going on for quite a while for almost no reason.

Pirates. Let's review.

Real life: Neither have any actual powers. Pirates have guns. Ninjas do not.

Anime: One Piece = Awesome.

Pirates are so cunning that they would convert a ninja into one of them and then betray them. Pirates are also stronger, have better weapons and transportation.

Ninjas may be able to hide well, but hiding won't win you a battle.

Pirates... better weapons? I think ninjas have better weapons when it comes to combat. The only good weapons that pirates would have are old pistols and cannons. And I highly doubt cannons would be of use in a battle against ninjas. Ninjas had Katana's, daggers, poison darts, spikes, nun-chucks, kusarigama, shuriken, hand-held bombs and grenades, soft-cased bombs which were designed to release poisonous gas or smoke.

Not to mention the ninjas techniques or tactics. Ninjas are very intelligent and would start fires away from the ninjas planned point of entry to distract guards, or whomever they are assassinating. They climb trees and camouflage themselves, and they even were said to curl into a ball and remain motionless in order to appear like a stone.

Compared to Pirates, I think when it comes to who can take out the other the quickest, quietest, and cleanest, the ninjas have the upper hand. Also, the ninjas have way more ways of killing pirates than pirates have of killing ninjas.

Ninjas>Pirates,in every way.

That's fiction, though. Ninjas never actually had supernatural powers like that, and a pirate would probably be well adjusted to seeing in the dark so as to keep watch over the ocean at night or during a raid.

The only reason I talked about Ninja Assassin and them having supernatural powers which is fiction is because you spoke about the Space Pirates. But, you do know there is a new thread in the debate section about ninja and pirates.

In an actual fight, Pirates would win. End of story. Pirates have guns, ninjas do not. They win, no matter how sneaky a ninja is.

In terms of coolness, pirates still win. They get the booty and the rum.
