Victory Road closed on January 8, 2018. Thank you for making us a part of your lives since 2006! Please read this thread for details if you missed it.
This board is for the fans who are old enough to remember the early days, when there were only 151 monsters and every kid in school hawked Pokémon cards.
Share you childhood memories, talk about rumors you heard (may be eligible for addition to my rumors page), elaborate on what it used to be like, and all that other nostalgic talk. Also, feel free to discuss what life is currently like for you and any other fans you may know.
ANYONE UNDER AGE 16 WILL BE BANNED FOR A WEEK FOR POSTING ON THIS BOARD.
...OK, I won't seriously do that, but please stay off this board if you haven't been a fan since the early days.
1 – GusFroggyBondHeck, I remember when everyone is skool was definetely into Pokemon. Always talking about it, trading kards, play it together, etc. Now, it is hard to find "decent" players around here and nowadays (due to hackers and such). Good times.. now gone. Thanks to the shooting games (whom I find extremely boring except for Metroid). ![]()

I'm 15 and a half, and of course I remember when EVERYONE was into Pokémon. Everyone had masses of Pokémon cards, and everyone owned at least one of the Pokémon games at that time, whether it be Red, Blue, or Yellow.
Please don't ban me |
I am what you could consider an "old schooler" since I've only played Generation I&II games. I recently renewed my interest in playing pokemon and watching the old episodes (Season I, of course!).
My username is based on my love for Grass- and Fire-type pokemon. In addition to those two types, I've always been a fan of Eevee and its eevolutions.
I remember when all life was, was collecting pokemon cards. Now sadly at my school you don't have very many friends if you like pokemon but, my friends are real friends so they listen to me and respect me when I talk about pokemon. I have though, found a few other people who secretly love pokemon and then there is my friend whom I've known since I was 4 and all we talk about is pokemon.
Well, let's see how life rolled for me...
Elementary School: If you did not talk about pokemon or digimon or any monster or Nintendo series, you were isolated.
Middle School: If you did talk about pokemon or digimon or any monster or Nintendo series, you were isolated.
High School: If you are a freshman-sophomore, you were isolated for talking about any of the above. If you are a junior-senior, you were not isolated for talking about any of the above.

Believe me, it is so true. I can't recount how many Pokéwalkers I saw on college campus at the end of the semester. There were actually people I met up with at specific times just to swap Pokéwalker data! Then there were the folks who actually had Pokémon plushies! I kid you not, I've seen two Pikachu, a Cyndaquil, a Piplup, and one more that I forgot.
Also, during dinner, I pulled out Pokémon guides a few times. Guess who got a few positive comments? |
I must be blind or something. I've only ever seen five DS's on campus in my three years of college. One of them was my own. Only one (not including my own) was being used to play pokemon. One of my friends that goes to college elsewhere says there are a bunch of people he knows that play pokemon. Maybe I just live in an area that's not too enthusiastic about pokemon.
I tend to agree, though, that all of the dunderheads that make fun of you in high school don't make it to college.
My first encounter with Pokemon was when the Tentacruel episode first aired. From there on I fell in love with Pokemon!
I recall playing Yellow version a lot, as well as Gold. Those were good times.
It's funny because HGSS is essentially a fusion of those two games, what with Pokemon walking around with you.
i can still remember getting the foil charizard in front of the store and...ordering a japanese ancient mew off QVC (well my dad getting it). And I still remember memorizing the poke raps while playing blue...which thanks to the missingo item trick made me never realize how rare ethers and pp ups were
