It's fat. It comes in 11 different languages. And it makes the box noticably bigger. Seriously, look at this.

Spoiler Alert:
First thing, the size difference. I happen to own a Japanese and European version, and by comparison the European version (HeartGold) is bigger.

Spoiler Alert:
Now to look at the contents. These are the contents of SoulSilver (Japanese). You've got the game, the Pokewalker thing, and a small leaflet for it.

Spoiler Alert:
Here are the contents of HeartGold (European). Again, there's the game and Pokewalker cardboard, but the leaflet's gone. Instead we've got this fatass book.

Spoiler Alert:
Here's a comparison of the Pokewalker instructions.

Spoiler Alert:
Look at this. The HeartGold box is so big, I can put the Soulsilver box, AND the big Pokewalker manual into it.

Spoiler Alert:
Last thing. Here's a much better way of carrying it all. Have all the junk in the HeartGold box, and have the two game boxes fit snugly in to the SoulSilver box. Notice as well how the European game box is bigger, too.

And now you know why it takes games to freaking long to come out here. Translating both the manual and the game in to ELEVEN different languages. And yes, to make it fair the US version was delayed because of this.

Cheap? It was obviously more expensive to make the EU version. We just didn't get this big a manual cause Americans normally speak English only/as a second language.

Then why didn't they create it in just one language for each country.

You're joking, right? In Canada both English and French are official languages, throughout most of Europe English, French, and German are all quite common (not just in those respective counties), in China there is both simplified and traditional Chinese (which are quite different), etc. In contrast, throughout the entirety of U.S. and Mexico only two languages are common: English and Spanish.

The U.S./North American manual (as distributed in Minnesota) contains three languages, English, Spanish, and French. No other languages are at all common.

Why in samhell would it need to be in 11 different languages?

Europe has a ton of different places in and around it and many people speak many languages there. Places inside Europe like England(English), Spain(Spanish), France(French), Germany(German), and areas around it like Russia and such are all spoken there so they have to translate it to 11 different languages to accommodate all the customers living there.
