If you have any suggestions to improve the quality of this forum, post them here. Also, if you have any board suggestions (adding/removing/merging), definitely let me know.

Please put any suggestions regarding the chat room here:
http://www.victoryroad.net/showthread.php?t=1882

Things I will not approve:
- More smilies. There already are enough. I might even deprecate some.
- Changing servers/name. I've already changed servers twice and changed name once. The first server change is not something I want to go through again.
- Moderator/administrator promotion. Ask through PM or the Staff topic.
- New topics. Don't be afraid to make your own topic.
- Total rearrangement of the board. Two words: eight hours.

Things I might approve:
- Changing forum rules.
- Setting a topic as sticky.

Things planned:
- Adding more sub-boards.

Things I have recently changed:
- Enabled topic icons.
- Added smilies.
- Added additional themes.
- Changed signature policy. See Announcements.
- Changed forum rules.
- Added board images.

This wouldn't surprise me since Cat likes to give everyone he talks with a mod/assistant mod status.

You're just getting ideas from what happened at Heat Street.

I'm sorry, but I don't think I can do that with phpBB...unless I mess with the database.

I really didn't know where to post this but- How kome klicking on someone's username doesn't take you directly to thier profile. It would make life easier. So far, it's the only thing I see wrong or bad in this forum. I know you kan track users down, but it would save much more time just klicking on their username and bringing up their profile like that...

The "Profile" button is located at the bottom of every post. It will take you to the user's profile. However, clicking the username was something I planned on implementing.

lmao @ "Cat likes to give everyone he talks with a mod/assistant mod status" and negative post counts 0.0 hmm this is a tough one, you know how you changed the color scheme recently? Perhaps you could make different ones (maybe even with a different banner at the top) and in the UCP or somewhere else have a drop down menu where users could choose from the different themes. An example would be http://www.lugia.us/ they have a theme option on the right hand panel, but then again that's for the main page so I'm not sure if you could do the same thing for a forum

The forum is a Simple Machines one, and, as I don't have an account there, I can't see if it has different themes. But I know what you're talking about. I do have a few more installed, but they are disabled due to updating purposes.

As for the main site (and many other sites), a styleswitcher is not something I have planned soon, because I honestly have no idea how to make one (but I'd hope it's just a simple change of stylesheet.css).

oOOooh do you think we're going to learn anymore website stuff in CS or do you think we're going to be sticking with C++ all 4 years 0.0? Also I just came up with something else you might be able to do somehow: make links open in new windows? xD

I think we'll have C++ the whole time. I might get a minor in something for Web Development.

The new links one might be doable. I'd have to find

Code:
<a href="...">
and change it to include
Code:
target="_blank"

Can you make it so that it opens links in a new tab? When I click a link on these forums it goes to the page on the same tab, but somewhere else (like PokeCommunity) opens links in a separate tab/page.

Depending on your browser, you there is a way to open new tabs for links. For example, I use FireFox and when I click the center button on my mouse it opens the link in a new tab.

In Chrome you hold Ctrl, but I'd like it if it opened in another tab automatically (I can never remember to use ctrl -_-)

Nice eye.

Cat. I have a suggestion. I was wondering if you could move the Media forum from Pokemon to General. That way, we would have a place to post ALL media, not just Pokemon media. That seems like it would make more sense to me.

I have another suggestion. How about this. For every post, that's not in the Game Corner or /b/uizel of course, gets you some Pokedollars. You can then use these Pokedollars to buy things like exclusive adoptables, little symbols by your name, or other things. This just popped in my head a little while ago.

We need a spoiler box were you need to click on a box marked spoiler and it'll show the spoiler which is basically were you put spoilers or lots off information to reduce the sizes of posts.

A spoiler box actually wouldn't be hard because there are phpBB scripts for that, ready to install.

But Yoshizard's idea would be a massive coding project. I'd have to take two databases, which are currently independent, and make them interact with each other.

While looking at your 'Serebii Clone' topic, I got this idea. It might take a while though! XD
Basically, it's a big Pokédex, with locations, base stats etc. (Just like Serebii then )
BUT! Members of the forums can add any extra information to the pages, hopefully making the 'Dex even more informative than Bulbapedia! And you trust us people, right? You let up post news for the front page, and that hasn't been spammed yet (since I got here at least...)

Only problem: Bulbapedia already lets you do that. However, that doesn't mean that something like a forum Pokédex couldn't be started. Of course, only mods could actually edit posts, but anyone can reply with modifications. But it would be original. I haven't seen any other sites try it.

*points at self* Bulbapedia n00b!

Though it would take quite a few posts, with the maximum limit of 288900 characters. (Why so random? There's probably some obvious reason.)
OR you could do it like the Pokénews and have a separate page on the website, with a post for each Pokemon (and little [+] boxes so the page wouldn't get too big).
Just an idea though, and it's pretty flawed to be honest!

Hmm, I'm actually thinking about expounding on this idea. I think the character limit was originally lower. Someone wanted it higher so I added some numbers. Then it was too high (a thread in the garbage, Count to a Million, proves this), so I lowered it down.

But 288K characters should be fine for a Pokédex entry. Most (complete) Pokédex FAQs are only a couple times larger than that.

I have one suggestion...though I don't know how complicated it would be for you Cat.

You know how on Facebook you receive an e-mail letting people know you have replies for your status? Well, we have a mail system on this forum, so I was thinking there could be the option of a notification that your thread/post has replies after it.

Even harder would be to set so that you know there are replies and not that you have 15 messages in your inbox about all those replies, but it would make things really slick on here.

Again, I don't know how complicated this would be since a big thread could cause problems for the system to handle the number of posts going to all the different members. Could just be for threads you posts though.

Just an idea.

I've been to a few other forums and most of them have a "quick reply" feature: a small text box at the end of each topic that lets you type in your reply and click post without having to go to a separate page to post. I kinda grew attached to this and after checking the user control panel twice I didn't see an option for it, unless I'm blind.
I was wondering if you could get the same thing into these forums, if it isn't a big hassle.

Well, I guess I'll work on the arcade either tomorrow or later today.

Will we have the trophies? :3

Most likely yes. We already have a trophy system set up here.

I'm somewhat opposing the color feature due to the possibility of abuse.

I really don't see how it can be abused. Care to elaborate?

I like the arcade feature. But users might go to the arcade more than the forums. D:

I'll still post a lot on the forums. The arcade won't be that distracting... I hope. O_O

We should dub the arcade the VRcade. I think it just sounds cool

Cat, I noticed something minor that you might want to change (if you even can). On the chatbox at the top of the homepage, when you scroll up to see the previous posts, and someone posts something new, it automatically takes you back to the bottom. This can be very annoying when you are trying to read something someone else has said, and people keep posting new things. I just thought I should bring that up.

It really is incredibly annoying, I know. I'm not sure if he can, though I don't think it would be that hard (it should be pretty simple Javascript crap).

I didn't program that thing. I'm focusing more on the chat program than the forum chat due to the latter's issues.

I say the adoptables should be like normal Pokemon.
As they level up, their stats get raised and they learn new moves.
And it would be interesting if you could have your own adoptables battle other people's adoptables.

Cat, you would never lose....

I have brought up that possibility, though its hard to say whether or not it will bear any fruit. I'm currently working on something similar, or will be in about a month.

We should have an Arcade section, there could be a tournament sticky and threads regarding the arcade could go there.

I have 2 things from another site I go on.

User titles basicly something to write under the user name or avatar and people with infraction aren't aloud to change it and banned users have it in Japanese.

Blog entires basicly photo albums without the photos I guess.

I won't be allowing custom user titles at the moment, but maybe I will in the future. The Japanese thing is pretty clever.

CloneCharizard suggested the blog feature a couple months ago. It's not all that difficult to add, but it could be another thing for staff to have to moderate.

A) Doesn't almost every forum in the world enable custom titles?

B) Well, there shouldn't be anything wrong with trying and either failing/succeeding. Unfortunately, the only official blog add-on is costly.

Absolutely not! That makes the forum look like a playhouse.

A) That's why I was considering it as a possibility in the future.

B) The add-on he recommended is free. I think it's called vBlog.

I agree with this. The more serious, mature profiles really strike my fancy and give the forums an air of class.

Battle Adoptables? They are just things to click on, not an actual Pokemon game.

I sent a certain suggestion for the forums that I think should be implemented moderately soon, since there are constantly question about competitive battling floating around.

For now. FreezeWarp is planning to redo the old ZamFights project, except use the adoptables as the battlers.

I don't know if this has already been proposed, but I want to be able to change my username.

I want to change mine to "Armed Floatzel"

Is this too much trouble?

EDIT: Apparently, it is if absolutely no one has replied yet or even looked at this post to my knowledge.

Name changes must be performed by sending me a PM along with a reason. The less active you have been and the closer the name is to the original, the more likely I will accept a name change. For your number of posts, it may be best to begin by asking others to call you "Armed Floatzel," so a sudden name change will not cause confusion.

I suggest we have a board for non-pokemon game development, because it would help a lot of people (including myself).

I suggest that excessive use of smilies, including ones like ":3" and those that don't have a respective emoticon, should be enforced more. They're all over the main chatbox.

I believe using a single , , XD, , , or whatever else is a suitable response in the chatroom. Because talk is typically fast-paced and coming from multiple directions, it's easier for most people to post "" than say, "That put a smile on my face." As for posting them on the forum, they definitely cannot be used alone with three exceptions: /b/uizel, Game Corner, and to answer a Pokémon question (but these ones typically should also have the name written out). As for the recent spread of the licking icons , I'm not sure what to say about those. When they appear, it seems like either everyone joins in (including mods) or everyone ignores them; for now, it's fine like that.

Well unless someone does an excessive amount of smiles or some other irritating thing you can tell one of the staff members by either PM, VM, or on the Chat. If it's a serious issue and I highly doubt it would be one xD, you can consult Cat or the other admins on it.

I would like to suggest that non-staff members should have longer sigs, I mean. Look at Jad's sig. Sure, it's mod power and everything ,but could they at least have a spoiler if they're going to have a long sig. Anyways, please anwser this.

I agree, I'd really like to have a bigger sig. I'm pretty sure that a week or so ago Freeze was trying to make the limit bigger, did he have any luck?

The width will not be raised above 650 anytime soon for sure, pretty firm on the height at 200. Signatures are meant to be little representations of your personality, not giant image walls that guests and anyone who didn't disable them have to scroll past every time they read a post of yours. If you can't express yourself in 200 pixels, use spoiler tags.

As for Freeze, I know his signature is too tall. He's an admin, so it's not like sticking the FIX tag in there will be the nicest awakening.

I meant like having a bigger text limit. I think now it's 2000 characters including BBCode, but me (And quite a lot of people) want it higher. Since we can hide it under spoilers I see no problem with it, really. It doesn't have to be a big increase, maybe just a few hundred characters.

Limit reached

As of now, there is a limit of 100 posts per page.
