I have no idea if I'm posting this at the right area.

But are Jessie and James a real couple? Or do they only work with each other? And do they own Meowth with a pokeball? I haven't seen team rocket use a pokeball on Meowth. Like to return or something. Does Meowth just follow them around?

Jessie and James aren't a couple they're just as much of couple as James nd Meowth are.

I thought they were a couple because they always say the truth and love stuff in their motto.

Jessie and James are, no matter what anyone tells you, really close and long-time friends. Its up to the fandom and rocketshippers as to whether or not they are actually a couple.

And Meowth I don't believe has any Pokéball - as far as I know, he joined Team Rocket voluntarily, and was never actually captured.

Meowth joined out of desperation to fit in after being rejected by his true love in the special episode featuring his past. It's not specified per-se, but it's suggested he found Team Rocket and was pleased by the idea of being loved and idealized as much as Giovanni's Persian (another reference to his past).

Hundreds of episodes later, I don't know why Meowth is with them except out of friendship.

This is nothing against the new episodes (I feel the same as after Johto and I loved the Hoenn series onward), but Jessie and James just make the show too silly, going back as far as Johto. Why are they together now and still chasing Pikachu (if they even are)?

It must be out of love. I'll stand by that.

I like that this question was asked because I wanted to get that off my chest. They use to be "criminals" with a nicer side to them, but ever since the onset of Hoenn I just think they gave up on ideas with them. :/

They are just business partners including Meowth.They work under Giovanni.

Jessie and James do look like a couple because how they act with each other. And if Meowth isn't owned in a pokeball, then why can't he go away from Jessie and James? He could have a better life as not being a criminal.

Well maybe also because early on in the series James would dress as a girl and Jessie would dress as a boy which was just weird.
