Today while playing HeartGold, I was patrolling with my mid-twenties team when all of a sudden a Raikou springs from the bushes! Exotic rhythms begin to play, and I know it will flee, and my Bayleef can't do a thing. This is the first time I encountered it, so it is brimming with HP and healthy as a newborn. I whip out my Heavy Ball, toss is, and catch it. O_O' I didn't expect that at all, not even one shake. That's one legendary pup down.
Have any of you easily caught a seemingly elusive Pokemon before?
Wow, that's almost like winning the lottery (sort of). In my Heart Gold, right after I beat Morty and exited west, Raikou was the first wild Pokemon I encountered! Of course, it was 10 levels higher and I didn't have any special balls.
Not that it matters, because I have a Shiny Raikou in Platinum. ![]()
I encountered Raikou a lot of times in my SoulSilver, and every time I try to catch him with a Heavy/Quick/Dusk Ball without battling him, I simply fail. He is still at full health, roaming the lands of Johto that I have visited.
In Platinum, I was able to catch Cresselia without even battling her at all. I threw a ball (forgot which one) at her, and the next thing I knew: Cresselia was caught.
I caught Heatran with a Luxury Ball, but that's not really too special. :/ I think I weakened it a bit first, too.
But Cat caught Kyogre with one Poké Ball! ![]()
A few years ago, me and my friend were playing Ruby and Sapphire. I was playing Sapphire. We were both at the part where you catch the legendary (Groudon/Kyogre) and we were going to race to see who could catch it first. We started, and I chucked a Normal Pokeball at it right away, and caught it.
That is my craziest catch story.

Just today, I woke up and opened my DSi and went to route 27. Then I find a Pokemon, the screen does it's "legendary" style shake. So I say, "Here comes a runner...". Sure enough it was Latias, I threw a Quick ball. 1....2....3.... *click*. Ta-da! Now I've got a nice level 35 Latias.
The only thing I got close to that was when I was playing Sapphire the first time, and ran into the Female Ralts that is now Kaanta's grandmother. I had just two Pokeballs, and didn't want to risk crushing the poor thing, so I just lobbed a Pokeball at her, and ping. Catch'd.
That's about it. Everything else seems to be a struggle for me. :3
Groudon. I was on my last pokemon, Magnezone (bad matchup) and I had my Master Ball and a Heavy Ball left. Groudon was on full HP... I through the heavy ball and capture!
However, I have had luck better than that with an Arceus and a Shiny Metagross. I was on serebii net chat asking for an Arceus to activate the Giratina/Dialga/Palkia thingy. This complete IDIOT came up to me and said, hey I'll take that EV'd Bastiodon (hardly ev'd) for Arceus, and I'll give you a shiny metagross (level 100, Pokerus) for that Ev'd drapion (also hardly ev'd). Have you met an IDIOT like that?

A couple of strokes of luck hit me on Pokémon Black last week:
I went off to catch Victini, but when I got into the battle with it I realised my Pokémon were too powerful. I thought I might as well have a try anyway, so I got out my weakest Pokémon, Zeburaika, and paralysed the Victini. Then, after a mere two Ultra balls, I caught it! ![]()
Later on I went to continue the story, and encounter Reshiram. I wasn't really paying too much attention, so I just hit it with one attack to bring it down to low HP, and lobbed an ultra ball. Reshiram GET!
In Platinum I was facing Palkia and had 5 Ultra Balls, 10 Great Balls and 2 Poke Balls, I weakened it halfway and threw a Ultra Ball and got 1 wobble, so then I threw a Great Ball, I wanted to save the Ultra Balls for Dialga, and caught Palkia! Then I battled Dailga the same way except using all Ultra Balls, Great Balls and 1 Poke Ball, so then I crossed my fingers, toes and everything I could and threw my last Poke Ball ans caught Dialga! I was so amazed at both of these captures and nothing like this has ever happened since then.
I managed to catch Ho-oh in HG yesterday without needing to use the Master Ball. /o.o\
Caught Raikou and Entei the same day a few days earlier with Fast Balls after about a week or two of aggressive pursuit.
Only other lucky catch I can think of was for a friend about a year or two back...managed to nail Mewtwo with a Great Ball after fighting it down to about 3/4ths health and completely draining both Defense and Sp. Def down to their lowest level.
EDIT: Technically that was in FireRed, but I personally had never heard of Mewtwo being caught by anything lower than Master Ball, much less a Great Ball. Also won't cite catching Groudon/Kyogre back in Emerald seeing as I haven't touched it since getting HG/SS.
Yeah, basically it for me... ._.
