I saw rayquaza's thread, and you guys were absolutely no help. Your answers were so superficial, I would have thought you were talking about cereal if I didn't know the context.

What I want to do is a hack for Emerald that increases starter level and stats, plus less EXP required for levelups of ALL pokemon.

Now, what I want in response:
1) What type of hacking I should do
2) Where I can find tutorials, if available
3) Where I can find a place to download tools to aid me
4) EXAMPLES OF SAID TOOLS

Did this really need a thread? Googles a pretty awesome tool for this kinda stuff.

Anywho let me answer all your questions with one

Action replay

If your talking about hacking a computer rom of it, then just google "pokemon hack tools". Theres like a whole forum dedicated too it, and they have like eeeverything. Very fun to mess around with out of boredom. =w=

I don't consider AR as hacking per se. Plus, I've already checked google, and finding a helpful site on google is like finding a hay in a needle stack.

Yes, I'm talking about computer roms.

Hack tools can be found at: http://wahackpokemon.com/en/download/tools-gba

There are tools to change starters, but I believe experience, outside of growth rate (which you could change to easy), is hard-coded.

The best sites are like on the first page. Sure, theres alot sites on google, but the needle in the haystack is on the very top. :V

If this topic goes into discussion/links for downloading ROM's themselves, I'll have to close/probably delete the thread. No discussion of downloading or where to acquire ROM's.

Thanks. I guess I can change growth rate instead of exp.

Offtopic post is offtopic. Don't make warnings unless they're necessary.

1. Roms. Cannot give links. Google is your friend. Or in my case yahoo.

2. Hacking tools. Action Replay is not a hacking tool, it is a cheating device. Since the hacking tools themselves are not illegal and are indeed freeware, I can tell you one of them I use is called Advance Map. Hacks the advance games. Hoenn being the easiest for me.

3. Basic Emulation Knowledge. If you can run gba roms and know what you're doing, you're pretty much set. If not, go search on youtube "Visual Boy Advance".

On a side note, roms are illegal, but the tools used to hack them are not.
You're on your own finding roms, but if you want we can discuss this elsewhere.

{edit} Stat hacks? Never tried that. I've done map/overworld and wild Pokemon hacks, but not so much as stats. If that's possible.

Thanks for the help so far. Now all I need to do is get past the learning curve, which shouldn't be too bad since I've already had experience with programming, cheating, using profile stat changing tools, etc.

EDIT: FW, that site is still in half-spanish even though its /en/. It's a good thing I have 2 years spanish class

All right, I'll help you understand with all I have.

Hacking is cool, but it's not all fun and games. YAPE is a professional STAT editor for Pokémon. YAPE is the initials for "Yet Another Pokémon Editor" which changes information such as, ATK, DEF, SPEED, SP. ATK and SP. DEF. YAPE Can also edit Pokédex information, but there ARE certain character limits. YAPE can, again, ALSO edit evolution and TM/HM data. But back to the STATS, the STATS have a certain limit as well: all STATS (except HP, I think) can only fit 255 points. Err, I'd help more, but my head hurts really bad, so I'll stop for a while and get back.

But until then, I'd leave you off with Advance Map, Advanced-Text, A-Mart, YAPE and Unlz-GBA.

Are these programs cross-compatible?

Like I can edit the map in Advance-Map, save it, then edit the stats in YAPE, and it would work?

Painful though it is to say, I really have to agree with Jared here. Hacking tools aren't illegal, nor are what you call ROMs. ROMs are perfectly legal, can be distributed legally, and are a great way to spend your bored days. ROMs that are of copyrighted games are illegal if distributed by the non-copyright holder, such as a game dump of Pokémon Emerald distributed by me, but only then. A ROM is more or less a file format, what it contains can be a top secret document, or it could be something of no harm.

Fun fact: ROM stands for read only memory, which is exactly what it is. It is what is used to store the game's code so that it can't be corrupted by the save file, which is how the game dump got its name (which is not technically a ROM). Your Pokémon HeartGold game contains an actual, and perfectly legal ROM, while a .nds file of the same game downloaded from the internet is illegal, and not in fact a ROM at all, but just a file on your harddrive.

Finally, its a more complex question whether downloading a ROM is actually illegal or just uploading. It falls into the same category as putting music files on Napster (ask your parents), where the courts still have decided in more recent cases what the law is.

I have broken so many rules just now... I should clarify not to comment on this or to do so in a PM, 'cause this is really off-topic and is against the forum's rules.

Yes and no. I don't have much experience with game hacks; I have used Advance Map to get the in-game maps numerous times, as well as to make certain edits for the now defunct ZamFights. However, when you are done with one, you should be able to export the .gba file and then open it up in the subsequent editor. To distribute this hack legally, however, you'll need to get a little more advanced with .ips and .ups files, which I have little experience with. Distributing the .gba game is illegal because it contains everything copyrighted by Nintendo.

I don't intrend to distribute it, because that would be stupid either way.

Although this has been said, the exp rates are in hard data. I re-say it, because they are not actually formulas, as the game would take way to long to calculate them, and therefore could theoretically be changed in some which way.

Changing growth rate is suffecient enough for my needs, though.

Also, are there any tools for importing/exporting/changing GBA game music?

They need a lot of OCX files that are only included in XP. They also can't be registered into 7.
