For those of you who don't want to watch the video:
Basically, when you put a DSi on to a DS Lite in a certain position, the DSi will go to sleep mode, regardless of whether it's open or closed. I've tried this with my DSi/Lite and my Brother's, and I get the same result every time. It also works putting a Lite on to another Lite. I can't try with a Phat/XL, so you'll have to find out yourselves for that!

It's because sleep mode activates when magnetic stuff happens when your DS closes. If you hold a magnet on the top DS panel by the speaker, the DS will go into sleep mode.

Yeah, that's what I would figure as well. It does explain how my second DSLite broke (I've broken 3, by the way, and my current DSi has outlived all of them). It makes you wonder what kind of things you could do with such a trick.

Ahh, wait, how'd you break your Lite?

I've actually had mine for a few years now.. The only problem has been a small red dot on the top screen since I got it, and the L button was broken for a while, I think.

Interesting. I thought it was like a fridge door or something with a trigger switch.

Yeah, I've done that too. It was really trippy the first time I did that, when I found it on accident.

Does it damage your DS in any way?

I doubt it. If my theory is correct (see earlier post), then the magnetism being used was put there by Nintendo and should not harn the DS.

If the DS does get harmed, a pretty strong magnet would need to be used.

That time whenever I put it into suspend it would turn off right away. Later on, it would turn off when a closed to an angle anything less than 180 degrees (so not flat), and at seemingly random times. That was when I sent it in for repair.
