Nintendo Power's April 2010 issue rated Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions a 9.5 out of 10. The games were praised for most of the updates done to them from the old days of Gold, Silver, and Crystal, the metagame, and the inclusion of Wi-Fi, the Pokeathelon, and the real time events. It was, however, criticized for the cries of Pokemon following you still sounding like "electronic screeches" and for the lack of creative animation in battles.

Nintendo Power reviews are very political in my mind; Nintendo Power either says what the fans want to hear or what is most in line with their own perception of the how the game should sell. Something like HgSs scores well because it's a major release of a main series, whereas other titles (even diamonds in the rough) might get lower scores precisely because they're in the rough. I prefer Metacritic for more telling scores.
Was there anything about Gen V in there? I remember someone saying next month's issue of some magazine was going to have a reveal. Or was that Coro Coro?

It got a 94% here in the UK (I.e. 9.4/10) because it 'wasn't too revolutionary' and the 'basic engine remains unchanged'. Phah.
What's the highest ever score in Nintendo Power? |
I'm not surprised that Pokémon HG/SS received such high scores. They are, by far, the best Pokémon games.
