Recently a rumor popped up that some 3rd parties have started to receive development kits for the DS2. Well, it looks like The Pokémon Company got their hands on one. Nintendo claims that this is merely the first version for what will eventually be the final system. So far it has been said that it contains motion sensing technology.

So we will be getting a new DS soon and there will be Pokemanz on it.

Finally - we've only had this freakin' thing for 6 years (DSLite and DSi were improvements, as were the GBA Micro and GBA SP, but 6 years?!).

I wonder when it will be released, and at what cost. The DSiXL may not even come to America at this point, but a new DS2 should sell well.

Additionally, I have to hope it'll be backwards compatible. There seems to be little reason to even change the cartridge at this point.

Is there any evidence at this point to suggest that the fifth generation will be on it? I had assumed it wouldn't be, since it has only been announced recently, but I suppose with this news it's a possibility.

TO END ALL OFFTOPIC DISCUSSION: THE DSi IS NOT THE DS2, IT IS SIMPLY A DS WITH MODIFIED HARDWARE/SOFTWARE. DS2 IS THE FAN-NAME FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF NINTENDO'S HANDHELD HARDWARE SYSTEMS. END CAPS.

See, it would make a helluvalot more sense if ******* 5 came out on a new console than if it was released on the DS/DSi. So I guess we can start to look forward to Gen 6, although at this point it's still not likely.

I think its still too early for a new Pokemon. We need to get warmed into HG/SS still( even though it isn't here yet)

A little late for that. Gen. 5 is already on top of us.

On topic:
'bout time. I was getting sick of all the DS mods. (DSiXL? Honestly, what was nintendo on with that idea?!?)

motion sensing on a handheld. IDK how that can be pulled off, but I'm waiting for it.

There's actually a good explanation for that, but because I'm starting to get a bit peeved over all this stuff over the DSi/DSi LL, I'm not going to say anything. If you want me to tell you PM me or something.

Just...no more chatter about the DSi here. Unless it's relevant to the DS2.

Yeah ironman is right, DS2 will be the next portable by Nintendo not an update/alter of the current one. I love the 1st and 2nd gen Pokemon, other than that i thought the others lacked abit, im hoping 5th gen will have some better looking pokemon but it's all about the 5th gen now we know it's coming

Just to inform everyone- Don't discuss anything related to Gen V or DSi/DS XL.

On another note, I seriously hope that this DS will never get released. Why? Because my mom makes a trouble whenever I want to buy a video game because she says that it is a waste of time. Now! What will happen if I tell her that I want to buy DS2?!
Oh God! Please don't allow this to happen!

This is what I read about the DS2:

Quote:
Nintendo President Satoru Iwata talked to a Japanese newspaper called Asahi Shimbuni and revealed a few details about the successor to the Nintendo DS.

Iwata said the DS2 (that’s what we’ll call it for now) will have motion-sensitive controls — think Wiimote, or at least iPhone (iPhone) accelerometer. He also promised it will have “highly detailed graphics,” which haven’t been a priority for Nintendo lately. Maybe he just means they’ll be detailed compared to what we see on the DS right now, though.

He also said the DS’ successor will definitely not have a 3G Internet connection or monthly fees to accompany it.
You can find the original article here, though you won't find much information other than what I posted.

Heck. You think Nintendo will not make a successor to the DS sooner or later?

I can't beileve Nintendo honestly thinks the iPhone as competition.

Do you own an iphone? They are major competitions to the DS. The games you can get on an Iphone are amazing and are only gonna get better. Further to that you can do so much more on iphones/ipod's, in my opinion it's very good to see Nintendo doing something about it.

Most of iPhone/iPod Touch games aren't even full. A few are even ports of games available on other consoles. And those ports suck.

I agree with Mag, Apple as a video game company is not a reason for Nintendo to compete with them, hence the lack of phone coverage on the DS2.

You know, I need to look for a new term to call the DS2.

Guys! Guys! Because I'm a narcissist, why not call the DS2 the Iron Man until it comes out?

*brutally mugged/murdered*

The DS2's motion controls will probably be on par to the Wii Remote's gyro. Maybe something in between the standard motion detection and MotionPlus.

have you played nova? a game on ipod and it's graphics are immense and it's basically halo 2 in your hands. Nintendo seriously have to compete with apple, they know that and there working on it.
