Before I pose my question, let me fill you in with some background.
Today, I wore a Pokemon shirt to school. In Fundamentals of Art, a guy came up to me and said, "Pokemon sucks." Now before I recieve any AAP comments or prejudged posts, or before someone moves this to the AAP board, listen further. I asked him why he thought it sucked and he gave me three reasons.
1. It's old. (No arguement there, it's been around for over a decade.)
2. It's for kids. (...No.)
3. It's a turnbased RPG.
3 is what intrigued me the most. This person went on to say he preferred hack and slash RPG's and FPS RPG's over turnbased strategy ones. This got me thinking: There are many different subgenres of RPG. Which do you like more over others?
I included the following into the poll:
Turnbased Strategy
Massive Multiplayer Online
Gridbased Strategy
Hack and Slash
First Person Shooter
Rocket Propelled Grenade (Okay, that one's just a joke.)
If there are any more you think I should add to the poll, tell me and I'll do so.
What types of RPG do you tend to play and why?
I always found Turn-based and RTS games to be most attractive, or some of the more awkward games like Smash. I've never been too great with reflexes, though,so when I started playing some of the PS1 games like Xenogears and FFTactics, I got super hooked. And sure, Xenogears is an RPG, but I don't recall any part of that game that required reflexes.
And I just took a look at the poll. Aren't turn-based games generally the same as grid-based?
