Ooh, I quite like this idea...but I'm still mystified why they haven't been working on bringing N64 titles forward from the Wii's VC.

Then there's this weirdness:

Quality of Life?

Both of these are from their latest investor conference. Nintendo--and Iwata in particular--has been confusing me a lot lately, though, notably how mysterious they are with things.

How does this make any sense... That's not even retro yet...
I just... I don't... Where is the logic behind this...

I think Game Freak has already shared a lack of interest in putting main series Pokémon games on any of the Virtual Consoles simply due to challenges in connectivity (trading, battling, transferring to later generations of games).

I would've preferred GBA games over DS games, honestly.

Brilliant, Nintendo. Go ahead, re-release the DS games.

Meanwhile, I still can't play Super Mario World on the 3DS?! What is this?!

I don't know of any DS games that I'd even want in a non-portable version that I already own. Besides, I don't even get how certain games that use dual screen cinematics would work. Hmm, like TWEWY... that'd be interesting...

I don't know- I wouldn't really mind the DS games rereleased to played on the console. Though I too thought they would have done this with GBA games first.
I mean, I could imagine really enjoying some games on the TV. Like Warioware Twisted, a DS Fire Emblem, a Professor Layton, Rhythm Heaven - even a Pokemon, if they went through the trouble. (Points to Cat's post) But the list could go on. Some of the Etrian Odyssey's, Metroid Prime Hunters, Tales of Innocence...

I really don't know, the more I think about it, the more I'm liking it. Though I know some of the games I'm hoping for probably wouldn't get the rerelease, I can hope.

They ARE coming out with GBA games on the Wii U Virtual Console, too.

Any -recent- evidence for that?

No. Hmm, maybe Nintendo was blowing hot air (like they might be doing now)? *shrugs*

We'll get more info on it when Pokémon Bank is released and when Reggie announces an official Mother 3 translation.

Does that go with when Flipnote 3D comes to the 3DS, Half Life 3 comes to PC, Nintendo finally announces a unified account system that allows logging in on multiple consoles, and Duke Nukem Forever finally comes out?

Oh, and don't forget when SMB3, all of Wii's VC titles, and Gamecube titles land on the Wii U on the same week and the Wii U VC gains a consistent release pattern afterward, and Nintendo gains a strong amount of 3rd-party developers working on new games, and then shortly after releases Starfox and F-Zero games for the Wii U as well has having the entire library of SNES games on 3DS and allowing for free emulation of ALL NES games on smartphones and tablets.

...I might be getting a bit ahead of myself...

Looks like they might be working on bringing more GBA games to the 3DS Virtual Console:

For the record, it is getting hard to find some older DS games, so this could sort of work.

Still, it kind of defeats the purpose of handheld gaming.

Indeed. A lot of handheld games are built with portability in mind. One thing I noticed is that a lot of games that were ported from other consoles added in the ability to save anywhere along with various changes to meet a smaller screen. A notable example is Super Mario World. The portable version on Game Boy Advance is a bit easier (getting hit with a fire flower/cape sends you to Super Mario instead of Small Mario), but it definitely feels like an enhanced, portable version of the original.

Actually, I find console-to-handheld ports (of platformers, at least) to be a little harder than the original thanks to a smaller screen. Anyone remember Sonic 2 on Game Gear?
