" The first big Pokemon X and Pokemon Y announcement of this morning's Nintendo Direct was Pokemon Bank. Pokemon Bank is a 3DS application that will allow players to store up to 3000 Pokemon online. Cloud Pokemon, get it? Yeah it wasn't so funny the first time I said it either. Pokemon Bank will be a subscription-based service, which Iwata said would have an, "annual fee."

Features of the Pokemon Bank system include the ability to deposit or withdraw Pokemon from multiple copies of the game, as well as huge 3000 Pokemon storage size. All it requires is that a Pokemon X or Y game card be plugged in (or the downloadable version opened) and then the application can be turned on.

While the addition of an annual fee isn't exactly great news, for an online service that many Pokemon players will be using I suppose server fees have to be paid somehow. No price has yet to be announced, but hopefully Nintendo will keep it affordable for all Pokemon X and Pokemon Y players, young and old. Nintendo's also revealed that there will be a free trail period to start out with.

In addition to Pokemon Bank, Nintendo announced Poke Transporter. Poke Transporter makes transferring Pokemon from other games a much simpler process, as it works hand-in-hand with Pokemon Bank. Just plug in a copy of Pokemon Black, Pokemon White, Pokemon Black 2 or Pokemon White 2 and you can transfer your Pokemon in the Bank. That's all it takes! No other games are planned to be supported at this time, it seems.

Pokemon X and Pokemon Y will be launching October 12 exclusively on the 3DS, now with Pokemon Bank and Poke Transporter! "

At least there's a free trial, so you can transfer all your pokémon for free.

It's going to be about $5 per year. That's honestly nothing to complain about when they are giving you 3000 boxes spaces.

I like it. It means we can start over and just put our Pokemon in our Pokebank.

$5 a year for 3,000 box slots? SIGN ME UP! I really hope paying an annual fee means that they have no plans to ever shut the servers down (instead migrating to support each new game or something) until nobody is paying anymore. I would seriously abuse the heck out of this service. I've been dying to hear something about a new Pokémon Box since I learned that Ranch wouldn't work with Platinum.

Sorry, I honestly wouldn't even mind if it was 5$ a month I'm just really annoyed by this no spoilers thing.

Also I can promise the servers will over load when this is released.

If its $5 a year how do we pay? If we have to use credit card i wont be able to even use it yearly. But if we pay it using our $20 3ds cards then that will be just fine.

Hm, good question. I'd say eShop account funds...but that's tied to the system, and a cartridge is not. Will Nintendo finally release the account system, or will they tie it to the Global Link account (makes more sense)?

They rather use the eshop method. That way its easier for everyone to buy a card and spend $5 from it. [plus you figure they still make $20 from u buying the card?]

Update: I googled around to see if someone had more info on pokebank, i found the wiki site and they said that pokebank wont be coming out till Dec. 25th 2013. I dont think its official or not but i just figured to let u guys know.

I would definitely rather use e-shop to buy it. I don't like the thought of paying every year to use it, but it'll definitely be worth transferring my Pokémon.

Also, December 25th is a really long time away, are you sure you have a correct date? Cause if that's true, then we won't be able to transfer our Pokémon until the end of December.

I don't think we have a date or a price yet. They both sound like rumors.

I'm all for this, really. It's a much better option than to just up and buy another 3DS, and more convenient, and at $5 a year, it's practically a steal of a service.

The only thing that sucks about this is if you want your pokemon from the bank, is when your at someplace with no internet or cant get on the internet at a certin location.

I do hope this is true. It would definitely be helpful given the seemingly decreasing box space the games have been offering.

They may turn it into a marketing scam and only give players a box or two of storage normally though.

Well, they did joke about it saying "you could pass this down to your grandchildren" so I assume that they probably do plan on keeping it around unless, like you said, it shows no progress.

The poketransporter should be free at least. Like do like the past games did but this time have a special offline box or two to put pokemon in from 5th gen to have them for 6th gen. Its kinda dumb you have to pay to put pokemon from a past game to another one. Sure the free trail gives u a month, but after that who knows.

Y'know, I hope this thing makes it easier to transfer Pokémon forward to Gen VI, as the system supports both Gens V and VI.

I was under the impression it only supports Gen V. Can you link a source?

Also, it is very convenient as it transports entire boxes and no minigames are involved.

Nah we need to punish the people that skipped Generation IV.

Plus Gen IV Pokemon can't be sent directly to the internet like Pokemon Box is requiring.

Well, look at the bright side, it's only a yearly fee.

So it seems Pokémon Bank is coming December 27th as a Nintendo eShop application, and Poké Transporter as a second download. There will be a 30 day free trial pass issued until January 31st and that's when you should get to doing all your necessary transfers if you don't like the $5 annual fee. Like the transfer to Gen V, items cannot be traded up.

It comes out pretty late in December. If I have Wifi I'm going to make it my goal to complete the X and Y National Pokédex by 2014.

From what I've read it seems most likely that it uses Nintendo eShop funds from within the app just like DLC does for regular games. They haven't completely stated how the process will work or what would happen to Pokémon left in the Bank if you neglect to pay the fee, but they said it'll be clear closer to launch.

It will be easier on me to the E-shop to pay for it as i can just go buy a $10-20 card to pay for it.
