This is silly to post, but I've been thinking: thunder and lightning are two different things right? Thunder is sound and lightning is the actual light (what we see) of the electricity.

Electric Pokemon have always been able to learn moves like "thunder" or "thundershock" or "thunderpunch," but the way they are presented in battle is like that of a lightning bolt.

So I ask, why do they go with "thunderbolt" instead of "lightningbolt?" Is it because it sounds better? Or is Nintendo trying to mess with our heads and confuse us?

If these moves are going to be use "thunder" in their names, I say that "Soundproof" Pokemon like Exploud should never be affected by these moves since they are immune to sound attacks. Otherwise, the moves don't make sense.

Huh, huh?

Yes, they should have called it lightning bolt. Maybe they choose thunder because it SOUNDS cooler . I wish I knew what came up into nintendo's mind and yes louderd should be immune to thunder.

Lighteningbolt doesn't fit into the text box. It's longer than ten characters.

Flamethrower=12 characters
Lighteningbolt=14 characters

Doesn't seem like too much a stretch to fix this though.

So that justifies the use of "Thunder" as a move instead of "Lightening?"

Thunder=seven characters
Lightening=eleven characters

If they're going to keep making Pokemon games, at least show a different special effect for the "thunder-based" moves so that it's more accurate.

Thunder does sound better, and I'm not denying it should stay the way it is, but it really is a misunderstanding of what the words actually mean.

:O Whoa I thought I was the only one who realized this! Maybe when the game was being made they realized Thunder sounded cooler than Lightning? I suppose it will be another thing added to the list of Nintendo mysteries...
