The official Pokemon movie website has unveiled a brand new trailer for the upcoming sixteenth Pokemon movie, Extremespeed Genesect:Mewtwo Awakens, which may be viewed below:

The trailer depicts the Genesect army destroying a city, after having been released from their containment pods some time earlier. It also features the return of the Legendary Pokemon Mewtwo, who has been absent from the anime for over a decade. Director Kunihiko Yuyama has stated that the setting of this film is based on New York City. Interestingly enough, the last appearance of Mewtwo (at the end of Mewtwo Returns depicted it atop a rooftop in a city bearing a striking resemblance to New York City. This suggests that the city in question may be where Mewtwo has remained since its last anime appearance. Also worthy of note is the final comment regarding the movie in this trailer, stating "You still don't know the real Mewtwo", (At approximately 1:18 in the trailer). This suggests that, despite its age, brand new details regarding Mewtwo may be revealed. Based on past trends, this may be things ranging from a new form, to simply highlighting its signature move Psystrike, or something else entirely.

Additionally, the promotional image for the film may be seen below:

Serebii did end up posting a few photos about a supposedly new Mewtwo form that will appear in the new upcoming Pokémon movie. It's unconfirmed for now, so I wouldn't get too excited.

The new form sort of reminds me of Frieza or Super Buu from DBZ... I can imagine Mewtwo going "KAME..HAME...HAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" And this form actually makes sense, considering Mewtwo's creation had to do with DNA or whatever and then Pokemon X and Y's theme is also genetics. Very interesting.

Does anybody else nearly get shivers from the epicness of Mewtwo's nonchalant rejection of Genesect's Extremespeed? Mewtwo is just too cool! I'm so glad to see him again, and I hope he'll end up playing a large role in the movie! Also, it's entertaining because Ash remembers seeing Mewtwo before, even with the occasional trend of him completely forgetting about seeing a Pokemon *cough*Ho-oh*cough*. Awesome!

I was pretty dang surprised Ho-Oh didn't get any feature whatsoever in the thirteenth movie because of HeartGold/SoulSilver. It had its chance pulled away twice.

Gotta say Mewtwo looks kinda funky like that.

I've been searching around to see what people are saying about this mewtwo form, and wow there are a lot of people that hate it. I don't see why, I mean it looks decent, doesn't look hideous!

I kinda hope this isn't real because if that's the " new Pokémon" they end up revealing on Smash then it'd be a little bit of a let down. It still looks pretty cool though.
