This may be because of Nintendo's policy on annoucing games in advanced but it probably is Gen V because Game Freak is publishing it.

Although it's still not known whether it will be a brand new series or a fifth generation game, I'm still extremely excited about the news.

An RPG? Ok. A few ideas.

-DSi exclusive fifth gen release (why not? I'm just throwing it out there on a whim. Besides, it makes sense.)
- ...Fifth gen release
-Colosseum game (And please let it have Wi Fi battles if it is)
- MMORPG? (maybe, if they really want to put it together I don't see why they couldn't)
- a rocket propelled grenade launcher with Pikachu spraypainted to the sides.

Game Freak only devolps the main series pokemon games so it has to be Gen V as I said earlier.

DSi exclusive Pokemon game? I hope not! I have a DS lite, and I would hate to have to buy a new system just to play a new Pokemon game! But nonetheless, this news is exciting indeed I can't wait for more information...

It says it's for DS, so I doubt it's exclusive to the DSi. I hope it's some kind of Colosseum-like game with full 3D!

Me too! I was disappointed when Battle Revolution turned out to be nothing like Colloseum, so it would be great to have another after all these years. Then again, Generation V wouldn't be too bad either, but releasing a new Generaiton the same year as HG and SS seems unlikely.

I say if they're going to keep things fresh, they're going to go full out 3-D, at least for the battles (as I've said before). There might be light improvements to the overworld part of the game, but if they really want to appeal to the fan-base, they'll try to push the DS capabilities to the max this time around with full-fledged high-graphic battles.

They're saying they're going to take the series in a "new direction." Does that mean part of the adventure (such as HMs and fighting a big, bad organization) might be changed? I hope so. It certainly would shake up the series for me.

I don't care what it is, so long as I can play it.

But, re-thinking about it, isn't it weird that Nintendo is releasing another new Pokémon game so soon?
I mean, think about it:

-Pokémon HG/SS (American+European+Korean release)
-Pokémon Ranger 3 (Japanese release in March, and American release by the end of the year most probably)
-Pokémon ??? (Japanese release by the end of the year, American release in early 2011)
-PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Big Adventure (American release in spring 2010, as stated by Wikipedia)

Correct me if I'm mistaken.

It is weird, but I don't think it's completely unheard of.

Sounds like marketing speak to me. Could be a DSiWare title, could be a TCG sorta thing, could be a Battrio sorta thing, could be a Stadium sorta thing, could be a Paper Mario (simplified RPG) sorta thing, ...we really don't know nutin' yet.

Hopefully a generation 5 game, Luxray will always be my favourite no matter how many new generations we get.

I like this idea! Paper Mario and its sequel remain two of my all-time favorite games.

An MMORPG? YUSH PL0X!

There aren't enough good MMOs around. A Pokémon would be awesome! But... very unlikely.

As for Gen V, does anyone else this it's a bit too much? Back in Gen III, when Gen IV was announced, I said that 500 would probably be the limit.

The article said new pokemon but I guess that isn't enough, there a lot of other people on another site I go on that still aren't excepting it.

What if they gave Luxio an alternative evolution? Then what?

It also seems to confirm that it will /just/ be the 5th gen - no MMORPG or anything.

Maybe HGSS is selling worse than they thought.

3-D is certainly not out of the question, but its hard to say this early. I would love to see them do what they did with Super Mario 64 DS, though I also thought the sequel would be on new hardware...

Which makes me ask another question; is this the first time they've had two generations on the same hardware? Maybe it won't support older DS/DSLite models? Ultimately, the DS seems to be here to stay a while longer.

They've also been playing with 3D a lot in Platinum (the majority of the game already seems capable of being rendered in full arial few, it would just be either too slow or too hard to make controllable).
