In the recent polls in Puerto Rico, 61% of those who voted supported becoming a US state to enable Puerto Rico to accept funding from governmental programs, such as Social Security, and for the residents to feel equal to the existing states. A message had been delivered to Congress with the results.

I don't have much of an opinion other than that I think it's a good idea, but I'm curious to know what you folks think.

Awww, accepting little Puerto Rico sounds like such a nice thing, but... just to be negative, that would be sooooo ugly to have 51 states. That number is so odd and imperfect, and then we'd need an extra star on our flag and... egh. But seriously, I don't see why not, considering the benefits they'd get.

What will the flag look like then?

Have they even considered the cost of replacing every flag in the country!?

In all seriousness Puerto Rico is really disgusting place, so if they do become a state they're going to have to put a lot of new regulations into place.

That's the idea. They want to get more governmental support to force regulation of their state-to-be.

Actually, numerous hypothetical designs for a 51-star flag have been created. This one seems to be the most popular:

It'd look like th- oh dang it Vel is quick. But yes, that's what the flag could look like. The 51-star flag design doesn't look bad by any means. It actually looks a bit more organized than the 50-star design we currently have.

Funny thing, actually. If this stupid Texas seceding thing goes down (which is highly improbable), we might actually have just 50 states.

Maybe we should just kick them out. (No offense to you normal, reasonable Texans.)

Just as Jon Stewart did on his show in response to the number of states that have said they wish to secede:

"One nation, indivisible"?

Oh jeez, it's like, so weird. I could have SWORN there were a couple of words between "nation" and "indivisible". Just goes to show how indivisible it is when part of the pledge of allegiance has to be cut out.

The flag looks better with 51 stars in my opinion, don't really know anything about Puerto Rico though so I can't have much of an opinion on that.
