Starting February 1st if you pre-order HeartGold/SoulSilver you will recieve a figurine of the respective legendary bird. However, the MSRP of the games is at 39.99 (yes, this is $5 more then a normal 1st party DS game). This info comes from an official Nintendo press release.

I'm guessing the extra $5 is to cover the Pokéwalker (although I thought it was going to be free).

EDIT: GameStop has updated and they are also showing 39.99

Meh, whatever. I think the extra $5 would be worth it. Especially for me because i never beat the original silver version

Why? >_>
Im sure Pokewalkers aren't worth $5.
Im still surprised that they get away with this, since the games are only $10 less than Wii games. Heck, even some Wii games are less than $40!

It came free with the Japanese one, and I don't really mind paying and extra 5 bucks for it! It's a great piece of kit, why not?

No it didn't. The Japanese one was $10 more than normal retail price.

Anyway, I expected it to be $40, so this is no surprise to me.

Wait... is this offer available regardless of the the place where the preorder is placed? Or do you have to preorder at a specific store to get them?

This is bad. Here in Dubai, the games get more expensive than US. My Platinum costed AED 170, which is like $47, therefore, my HG might be $50 or even higher. >_<

I kind of expected this would happen sooner or later; I thought that it was impossible for a Pokémon game combines 2 regions, loads of extra features, and a pedometer to still retail at the traditional price. I am really thankful they didn't decide to increase the price a lot.

You're partially true; I'm not entirely sure if, this time, it's going to be significantly more expensive. Plus, I don't think an addition of $5 would make much of a difference.
That's, of course, if they don't decide to overprice it for us in Dubai just to get more and more cash.

Everything in the US here is $5 more.So it's probably gonna be around the same price that I got my Diamond for (Pearl was $42.99 and Diamond was $50.70) Great, My mom is gonna get mad at me for buying another expensive game

My mom (and dad) are already mad at me for ordering another Pokemon game, let alone both versions of it.

Anyways, when the GameStop DLC events show up, I'll be sure to report back on whether or not we'll have to re-reserve to get the figurines or not.

Oh, thats the normal price for me, and I think with all of the extra features and pedometer, this is a REALLY good deal! Good thing I've been holding off on pre-ordering it I think now I might get both versions.

I say it's worth it to put out an extra five dollars. Sure, it's a change in marketing that we don't exactly like, but then again, what other games do you really rack up over 100 hours on (especially if you train after the game is over)?

I'm surprised the games have stayed at $35 for the most part. With how big Heartgold and Soulsilver are going to be this year, I'm glad this is going to be worth every penny.

Besides, this comes out two weeks before my birthday (as well as two weeks before my spring break
).

If the Pokewalker is durable and not some cheap plastic toy, then its worth every penny.

Actually, I'd be quick to pay the price anyway. This game will be awesome.

Seems like a rip off, FRLG didn't cost extra because it had the wireless link up.
