Alright guys, Summer's coming to a close, and it was a pretty good one. But there was only one thing missing. That is a sprite contest. That is why I've decided to host and judge for my own contest.

DESCRIPTION:

This will be a contest, not a tournament. Which means that there will be no eliminations. The contest will start on August 20th. There will be three rounds and one bonus round, each round lasting three days. Which means final judging will be on September 1st.

RULES & RESTRICTIONS:

- Rule#1: Sprites must be original, meaning you cannot directly take a sprite off the internet and use it for this contest.

- Rule#2: Sprites entered for this contest must be made for this contest. No using sprites you've made before. Making sprites in advance for the later rounds of the contest is allowed, though.

- Rule#3: If a sprite is not handed in within the three days given, the spriter will be given a zero for their sprite until they enter it, in which they will get a penalty that I will explain later.

JUDGING:

Judging will be based on three things: Skill, Overall looks, and creativity. Each Category will be worth 10 points.

- Skill is how complicated the sprite looks. Ex. Giving me a a Golem with nothing but an Areodactyl tail on it will give you a bad score for this category.

- Overall Looks is what it says. Putting five different Pokemon together means nothing if it doesn't look good. I want to see all the parts of the sprite flow together nicely.

- Creativity is a very flexible term. What I'm looking for is what pokemon/trainer sprites you've used and how you used the parts for them. I also want to see a sprite that hasn't been done before, which means an Espeon/Umbreon recolor will get a very bad score for creativity.

At the day after the end of each round , I will post the scores of the contestants.

The penalty for a late entry will be that every point docked from your score will be doubled.
i.e. If someone gets a 9/10 for creativity, if it is late it will become an 8/10. An 8/10 will become a 6/10. A 6/10 will become a 2/10. A 5/10 or less will become a 0/10.

ROUNDS:

As I said, there will be three rounds and a bonus round. Here is what they are.

Round 1 will be a FUSION RECOLOR. This is will be a pokemon recolored as another pokemon. 





OR, you may also make a TABOO SPRITE. This is a sprite that is based off of a Taboo noise from The World Ends With You.

Round 2 will be a COSPLAY. This is a trainer sprite dressed up as a pokemon.





OR, you can make a CROSSOVER SPRITE, which is a trainer or pokemon sprite edited to look like a character from a different media.

Round 3 will be a SPLICE. This is a conventional sprite which is a combination of two or more pokemon. Combining more than two pokemon will give you a higher score in skill and creativity, at the risk of losing some overall looks.

SUMMER-RELATED sprite: A sprite that just shouts "Summer." The vagueness of this theme is what makes it difficult. You could do anything, sun-loving grass-types, cool water-types, fun-loving fire-types, Anything that has to do with summer.

Dragonite as Flygon.

Okay, all entries have been submitted. It's Judging time.

Entry 1: Chibi.

Skill: As a recolor/Taboo sprite, It's well done. However, the transparent part of a Taboo sprite is in the "Tattoo" part of the sprite, not the body. 8/10

Overall looks: Even though it's not a "conventional" Taboo sprite, everything flows together very nicely. I really like it. 10/10

Creativity: I commend you for being the only one brave enough to do a Taboo sprite. Also, Milotic is a very unusual choice for an all black-and-white recolor. 9/10

Overall Score: 27/30.

2nd Entry: SyracuvatTenlii

Skill: The way you put together the gallade arms and the combinations of green and orange looked like you put some thinking into them. 7/10

Overall Looks: Unfortunately, I do believe the orange in the Combusken would have looked better as Gallade's white. The outlines of Combusken's wings look a bit iffy as well. I do like the pattern you put on the stomach, though. 6/10

Creativity: Gallade is a relatively mainstream pokemon, but Combusken is an odd choice. It it were me, I would choose Blaziken. 7/10

Overall score: 20/30

3rd Entry: Shiny

Skill: Looking at this sprite, I can see effort and determination were put into it. The patterns on its side look hand-drawn. 10/10

Overall Looks: everything in this sprite flows together exceptionally. The visor and the markings on its luxurious red fur make it look regal and real. The cute tuft of fur on it's chest makes it look like something I'd want curled up in my living room. 10/10

Creativity: You'd might think combining two cats would be a non-creative choice, but over the years, I had completely forgotten Persian existed. And I never really liked Liepard, so I kind of Ignored it. 8/10

Overall score: 28/30

4th entry: GrasspokemonFTW

Skill: This sprite doesn't look much different than the original. It actually looks kind of plain. I actually had trouble figuring out what parts were different about it. 6/10

Overall looks: That being said, Although it looks plain and simple, the plainness and simpleness works. I find it hard to put into words, but it is good. 8/10

Creativity: Putting your policy for only using grass pokemon aside, To me, Sawsbuck and Cuttom are pretty obscure grass types. I like the way you think. 8/10

Overall Score: 22/30

5th entry: Aquablast:

Skill: All of the colors are similar here, but you managed to change them all. I have to commend you for that. 8/10

Overall looks: The problem here, though, is the fact that all the colors are almost Identical. I can't tell the difference between this and a regular garchomp unless you put the two side-by-side. Also, keeping the background white is a bad choice for a sprite. I recommend going to an imge editing site like Lunapic and turning the background transparent. 5/10

Creativity: Garchomp is a very mainstream pokemon, and Lucario even more so. This kind of relationship doesn't work for a recolor. It's better off with a splice. 6/10

Overall Score: 19/30

6th Entry: Yuxume

Skill: I've recolored a pokemon as Flygon before, and I know how tough it is to get its eyeshields perfectly right. Keeping track of all his different shades of green is tough, too. But you pulled it off. 9/10

Overall Looks: I like this sprite. It's really cute. But I just have one problem with it. His stomach is very bare. It would be better if you kept Dragonite's belly scales and recolored the outlines of them. 7/10

Creativity: I like to think that Dragonite and Flygon are the best dragon-types of their series, but oddly enough, combining them had never crossed my mind. It's still kind of an obvious decision, though... 7/10

overall score: 23/30

Question about Round 3. Your splice has the colors of the original ones used in it. Do they have to be like that, or can they be recolored to bring it all together?

You gave me a 28/10 instead of 28/30 in my final score.

Skill: Upon the first look, it doesn't look too complicated, but every time I see it, I see something new. 7/10

Overall Looks: In my opinion, It doesn't look much different. I commend you for effort, but I can see a lot of things it cold be improved on. 6/10

Creativity: Not exactly something you'd expect someone to do. Although, I do vaguely remember doing something like this. 8/10

Skill: Frankly, I don't see too much effort put into this. There's barely any splicing done and the outlines are pretty Garish. 6/10

Overall Looks: Oh, dear... This looks more like a recolor than anything else. I see several things I would've done to make it look better. I even told you how to get rid of the white background, and you didn't listen.

Creativity: All that being said, I never saw this coming. This is a very creative sprite, although it has many flaws. 9/10

Skill: I can see you put some great thought into this sprite. I commend you for it. 9/10

Overall Looks: However, some parts of this sprite are kind of glaring at me. The tail isn't exactly in the right place, and there's something on Claire's forehead, but I can't tell what. 6/10

Creativity: Yeah, when I think of Claire, the first pokemon I think of is Dragonair. But for some intangible reason, it clicks or something. 7/10

Skill: Oh, so that's what the thing on her forehead was. 8/10

Overall Looks: This sprite flows much better than the other Dragonair cosplay. (No offense to Tenlii) I love how you executed the spheres on Dragonair's tail in so many ways. 9/10

Creativity: The fact that this isn't a dragon trainer works with me. I still can't get over the creative uses for dragonair's tail spheres. 9/10

Anyways, this is a Latios X Hydreigon X Dialga X Garchomp fusion.

I had something great for this round until what happen with my laptop so I will make a new sprite and post it here soon.

Alright, here goes my entry:


Some of you might've seen this one. I misunderstood what the assignment for the first round was and... turned this one in instead. ^^;; But, this is my Kirlia disguised/dressed up/recolored/whatever you want to call it as a Meloetta.


I spent a lot of time on this. (Partly because I kept messing up. xD)
I was originally going to use Meganium's flower collar, but then decided to use Roselia's roses instead. The roses come from different sprites throughout the Generations.

Apart from Roselia's blossoms, I used Shaymin's, Bellosom's, Deerling's, and Wormadam's flowers. There's a Paras mushroom there, too, and the bush comes from Grotle. The body is Torterra's, as one might clearly see, and I scratched the flower crown and the little lake there.

And I used Roselia's main body color as well as their leg color for Lapras' body.

Sorry if I gave too much info... ^^;;

Hey, sorry to do this, and I hate looking like a poor sport, but I'm probably out of the running for the contest, and I have literally no experience in splicing pokemon together. Therefore, I'm going to have to drop out of this contest here. I think I'll be much more well-prepared for the next contest, though.

I just got my laptop plug so I can upload the sprite I wanted to used for this round. I must go to bed in a few minutes because of school so no time to remove the background.

1st entry: Chibi

Skill: I like the recoloring and the Additions you made. However, it kind of just looks like a Gothitelle with additions. (I barely even noticed you used a gothorita head, but that just could be my lack of BW playing recently.) 7/10

Overall Looks: That being said, it flows together very nicely. It gives a very Angelic, yet somewhat rebellious feel. 9/10

Creativity: Taking a lolita pokemon and turning it into an Angel seems like something you would expect, but it's hard to come up with that idea off the top of your head. 8/10

Overall Score: 24/30

The reasoning for the flaming sprite is due to the heat over here. i sometimes feel as if I'm on fire. Although that may be due to me not using sunblock. :I
It also relates to wildfires we get during the summer when theirs dry brush and grass.
I tried to be creative with the flames here. I gave them a more "tribal like" appearance.

Skill: Wow. Look at this. It's so amazingly complicated. I can see lots of hand-drawn things... I'm not even sure I can do it. 10/10

Overall Looks: It flows together really well. As a Yu-Gi-Oh freak myself, I can really see this on the front of a card. 9/10

Creativity: Probably not what you were going for, but it reminds me of moths getting killed by bug-zappers. Which is a really big part of summer nights. Well played, shiny. 9/10

Overall Looks: This sprite really "pops." It catches the eye really well. If you put all these sprites side-by-side, I would see this one first. 9/10

Creativity: It reminds me of everything people look forward to when summer starts. Palm trees on sandy beaches, Flaming heat from the noon sun, cooling off in the waves, and getting a good tan. It's pretty deep when you think about it. 9/10

(I'm more willing to take this sprite than the gardevoir, because the flowery gardevoir is more spring-oriented. Not summer)

Creativity: Unfortunately, surfing pikachu is very common. The winking is a nice touch, though. 7/10
