It's been well over a year, but it has practically never been brought up in a thread.

Way back when Reshiram and Zekrom were shown off, I remember thinking of two dragons I had seen when some friends were playing Yu-Gi-Oh!: the Blue-Eyes White Dragon and the Red-Eyes Black Dragon. I know a couple other folks made the connection, but I'm just curious if there was any inspiration from them.

But the Yu-Gi-Oh dragons don't have rockets for butts.

Wow. Took too long for this to be officially pointed out.
Thanks for bringing this up, I almost forgot myself. How dare Yugioh rip off Pokémon.

Well actually Pokemon was the one that would be doing the ripping-off, since they were second!

I remember immediately thinking about Blue-Eyes White Dragon when Reshiram came out, but I have never even heard of the other dragon.

Freeze pointed out earlier another interesting bit. The typings are inverted. Reshiram is Fire, and Red-Eyes Black Dragon is Fire. Zekrom is Electric, and Blue-Eyes White Dragon is Light (which is similar). Kinda like how Reshiram is the mascot of Black, while Zekrom is the mascot of White?

That's quite interesting. I knew Reshiram and Zekrom looked remotely familiar, but I just couldn't relate them to the Yu-Gi-Oh! dragons. It was a long time since I watched the animé, but having a look at this thread brings back some good memories.

Freeze... always one step ahead.

After looking at both it does remind me of the 2 Yu-Gi-Oh Dragons. All they really did with the dragon from Yu-Gi-Oh is edited them to make them looks more like Pokemon than Yu-Gi-Oh Dragons.

Wow I never realized that, but since you guys put it down, I have a few questions, were they inspired by Yu-Gi-Oh! to have these two dragons? was it coincidence? Did they realize afterwards? if they did realize it, did they add Kyurem to confuse us? (ie the eyes of the dragons, Reshiram [Fire] Eyes Blue [Ice], Zekrom [Electric] Eyes Red [Fire], Kyurem [Ice] Eyes Yellow [Electric]) I mean think about it, these are going to be unanswered questions for a long time I suppose.

I did not even know that they are related to Yugioh. I would love to see the epic battle between them to determine which series is better.

...It is largely a coinkydink guys

I would assume they both draw a similar source of inspiration, but I'll be damned if I know what it is.
