Yesterday, Nintendo officially revealed that a home console to succeed the Wii will not only be announced, but playable via demo at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, California, which will last from June 7th to June 9th. The console was also stated in the aformentioned revelation (via press release) that the console is to be released in 2012. Rumors regarding a successor had already begun to surface on the internet in large numbers, the most commonly accepted to be that the new console is codenamed Project Café. This is supported by WarioWorld.com, a site for Nintendo developers, having a login page for "www.warioworld.com/cafe" , as opposed to the error message one would get for entering an invalid URL, as well as images with mention of "Project Café Support" previously being found on the site, before the URL and images were both removed from usage recently. Other rumors include that the controller will have a touch-enabled screen on it and have the ability to stream games from the console, as well as that it (the console itself) will have greatly superior capabilities to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The original press release announcing the existence of the console may be found by clicking the source link below, as well as the pictures formerly present on WarioWorld.com before removal.

Great news. The Wii's days are more or less gone now, and Nintendo really needs to get down to the big wires at this stage. The 3DS is a strong contender in the portable gaming world, but now the new home console should be unbelievably good. I really hope it doesn't pale in comparison to the next generation of gaming like what happened with the Wii...
Hopefully this time they're planning on creating a system that doesn't solely run on a gimmick that the other companies are soon to jump in on the bandwagon.
What's more is hopefully they'll finally do something about the hopelessly restrictive friend code online system they have going which makes any meaningful interactions with people from around the world (what you normally use online for) impossible, you play online to meet new people on top of with friends.
