With the Beta 1.3 update, you can choose your own map seed (the thing that generates the map) in Minecraft. Some of these look amazing (Try "Glacier"), some have epic secrets (Try "404") and some are plain evil (Try "3666440496532277820")

In this thread post any awesome, epic, challenging or weird seeds you happen to find in Minecraft! I've got three that were originally found by people on the Minecraft Forums:

404 - Type "404" as your seed, and search for a beach with a large pit of gravel. Stand in the center of the gravel and dig a single block out, and watch in amazement and you plummet into one of the most amazing cave complexes in Minecraftia.

3666440496532277820 - Set your difficulty to Easy if you want to have any chance of surviving more than 20 seconds. And escape.

Glacier - Epic mountains and floating islands. 'Nuff said.

I've seen a lot of cool overhangs with seeds, I think the one I used on my single player was "Bob" or something o3o

Haven't explored it much yet.

there's a great mountain with what looks like half a skull face on it, from there you can see all the amazing at once

Invinsible (I know its spelled wrong ) and -2945350671081178213

Invinsible = Connected mountains and such, looks really cool.

-2945350671081178213 = Lots of floating islands and waterfalls.

Experiment 1: Seed: Random Results: Mountains as far as the eye can see
Experiment 2: Seed: Pokemon Results: Mountains made of sand. WTH?

or desert
for some reason it's set so if the coords at 0,0 aren't sand the spawn will be random, so one usually can't tell anyway

Get rid of the spaces after each of those i's. The world you get has a pretty flat area near spawn.

Thank you my good sir. I also found another world with some random letters that had a nice flat spot.

But Italics = flat? I'm confus

In other news, does anyone know a seed with LOTS of shallow water? Y'know... for squids.

This place really is impressive. Lots of water pools, bizarre mountains, secret caverns, and giant flats of land in the air that cause so much darkness that mobs spawn underneath.
