My top favorite franchises are listed in the following tierscale. (I consider spin-off franchises from the Mario games to be Mario games.) I do not consider Super Smash Bros. to be a true franchise since it's a fighting game featuring Nintendo characters as well as third-party characters.
1. Metroid
2. Pokemon
3. The Legend of Zelda
4. Fire Emblem
5. Mario
6. EarthBound/Mother
7. Kirby
8. Golden Sun
9. F-ZERO
10. Animal Crossing
...and various smaller franchises, but I don't play those as much/at all in some cases.
*sneaks a peek at Lite's picture*
1. Pikmin
2. Pokemon
3. The Legend of Zelda
4. Mario
5. Super Smash Bros.
6. Animal Crossing
Suuure I play Brawl competitively, but I've enjoyed myself more with other franchises. Also nothing against Mario, but the three above it have just provided more fun for me.
I have something against Mario ever since seeing Zero Punctuation's review of SMG2....
Back on topic!
1. Pokemon
2. Starfox

3. Legend of Zelda
4. Custom Robo (great game if you haven't played it)
5. Metroid
Metroid is on there because of Prime 3, that was a fantastic game.
There is no way that list of franchises is complete. Where's PilotWings, or Nintendogs? I'm sure there are more missing, too. Anyway, do sub-series count?
1) Pokémon
2) Mario and Luigi
3) Super Smash Bros
4) Paper Mario
5) The Legend of Zelda
6) Mario (Tie for Kart and the main series)
7) Kirby
Even though I gave places, they're all VERY close, it was really hard to choose which one went where.
