I would like to warn all users that for the past several hours the server has generally been lagging, with certain parts (such as VictoryBattles) going offline completely. We are working actively to resolve the issues, and I will update with any new information as it comes.

Edit:
A slow query in VictoryBattles has been fixed. This has helps some things considerably.

I noticed the lag for myself, thank you very much! >:I

It was fine during the week, but this weekend it's been awful.

I thought the removal of the frontpage chatbox was supposed to prevent lag? Yet I've been noticing a lot more downtime and lag ever since we took it down.

^

It was worse after the box was removed, plus the front page looks empty.

A major problem seems to be a script at the top of every page that you've hosted on VictoryBattles. I always get "Waiting for victorybattles.net..." in an extremely slow load, and then I viewed the page source and immediately found a hotlinked script from VictoryBattles, which you said is occasionally going offline...

...More or less coincidental, though I will agree with later posters that it looks a bit empty.

Generally this is not an issue as the file is usually cached, however this is why Cat really shouldn't pull the server so freely...

Additionally I have fixed one issue in VictoryBattles that should help.

Well Cat's server hosts many sites. Even moving something such as a chat box wont help completely.

It really isn't that simple xD

All of the hosted sites are alloted 256MB of RAM, where as Floatzel, VictoryRoad, and the Chat together use 1.5GB (6x all of the hosted sites).

This problem happened to me lotsa times, like a page saying "Database down" but I don't see it anymore, so its probably fixed.

The downtime in the recent months has been a combination of the following:

  • Resource-hogging chat systems, including the over-viewed module on the homepage
  • Poorly-written MySQL queries across multiple platforms:
    • Floatzel Pokédoptables (closed)
    • Topsites (closed)
    • VictoryBattles
  • Hoggy PHP
  • Images being redirected to a forum thread
  • Bad configuration in various software

I could easily complain about this, and get away with it. But I don't feel like throwing **** at Cat's face because he is currently doing so much for the server right now.
Good luck fixing it.

I hope it gets fixed soon. The thing this, I am ignorant when it comes to programing and computer languages.

Ah, I'm so relieved that this issue has been addressed and is currently being worked on. The lag in the last couple of days was driving me crazy, and the occasional "Database Errors" only aggravated the situation. >_>

The funny thing about the database errors is that they had nothing to do with the database. The site simply didn't have a connection to MySQL, which is the database software that drives the forum.

Lol, lag while going to a page talking about lag. How ironic.
But yeah, I've noticed lots of lag lately.

Eh, I hope this all gets fixed soon for the benefit of VR and Floatzel. We don't need to lose traffic D:. Oh and i'd like to report that the hosted sites (mine included) are going drastically slow.

I noticed before I went to school that the server broke. Luckily I had to go to school right after, so I wan't really waiting for the server to get fixed. But it was 8 hours!? That seems rather long. :/

See when someone(me) goes to sleep at 2:00 in the morning after we do updates that appeared to work. We get up 6-7 hopurs later that why it was 8 hours of downtime

VB and VRIM (for testers) are now running again. Additionally, the RC1 testing server will now have other issues, so use is discouraged until development begins again.
