...So I downloaded some music earlier. After saving it on my computer and downloading I just had to drag it to my MP3's files to listen to it. On My Computer I clicked the icon for my MP3 only to find nothing - the folders are absent. So right now I can't put anything on or off of it. >_> Anyone know what's going on?

By the way, all of my media files turned to VLC files when i downloaded that, it could be the problem. I uninstalled that and nothing happened, so I reinstalled it again. Maybe if I can change the audio file thing back to Quicktime (whatever it's name is) or something? That's what I downloaded all of the songs before the new ones as.

Uh, what's the name/brand/make of the MP3 Player, first off, and second off, I would assume that the files would need to be .mp3/.m4a to work on the MP3 player.

Alright, I'm not going to go into detail, but if you want more information on anything just ask:

1. The Quicktime/VLC icons don't represent the file type, but rather which application the file will open in. When you change a file's default application, this icon will change too. (So, no, getting it back to Quicktime won't help)
2. Try to figure out the fullname of the files, usually by right clicking and hitting "Properties". Paste a few file names that you know don't work here please (an example would be file.ext or hello.mp3).
3. Is it possible you deleted something? In general never "drag and drop" files to the MP3 player - copy them instead.

I had a Sansa player and noticed a very odd feature that is probably in use right now. They sport the ability to support "Media Transfer Protocol," or MTP, along with standard Mass Storage Class (MSC) like most regular flash-based MP3 players.

Media Transfer Protocol only allows certain types of media to be copied to devices, such as MP3 and WMA, but not, say, DOCX. Media files that are copied while in MTP mode will not be visible during MSC mode and vice versa. I know that through experience when I was using my Sansa player on a computer without the compatibility to use MTP, and I couldn't trim down its load from there.

So, your device is probably running in the opposite mode as when you originally copied the files. If it's running in MTP mode, check the settings of the device to override to MSC mode. If it's running in MSC mode instead, well, tough luck; you'll have to either upgrade your OS or use another computer.

Well, Cat, I've had it on Auto Detect which is where it's been since I got it. I've out over 200 songs on my MP3 with no problem. The weird thing is that I just put my songs on an external drive, put them on my laptop, and they transferred to my MP3 on that. I might just have to use my laptop for music.

That seems...rather odd. Maybe it detected the files were in a location it had already grabbed files with the same names from at some point?

(On a side note, if you want to know what mode the device is running in at a given time, it says on the screen when you plug it into the computer.)
