This question is mainly directed a minors, specifically 15 and younger, but you can tell me how you felt when you were that age.
When moral guardians label something as inappropriate for you, do you feel insulted? Call of Duty, for example. Do you think the protesting parents are seriously undermining your level of understanding? Do you agree with the rating systems made to "shield your innocence" and whatnot?
Speaking as a 16 year old right now, I loathed it, but at the same time, found it highly amusing.
Never really bothered me, actually. Most things I've been interested haven't really been deemed inappropriate. I'm not interested in Cod, or horror films, or all that stuff.
That said, there are those annoying times when I want to see or play something that looks interesting but supposedly inappropriate.
I had no such issues at that age. For the most part, I gladly went along with what I was told and agreed with the restrictions that were set in place. In fact, even now that I'm 21 and CAN watch R-rated movies or play M-rated games, drink alcoholic beverages or stay up all night just because I want to, I don't.
Rules keep everything running smoothly and prevent discord and inappropriate behavior. One could argue that if the rules weren't there, the chaos wouldn't be there because people no longer get in trouble for breaking them, but this is a mistake that many people that age seem to make.
The only time rules cause problems is when they are not followed or are counterproductive to the environment they are in. Simply put, follow the rules and there are no problems. Even if you don't like the rules, there is a reason they are in place.
A specific rule I have in mind is "no texting during class". I found (and still find) it disgusting how many people broke this rule. The rule is there to keep you from being distracted in class when you are supposed to be learning.
I'll get off my soapbox now and wait for all the young people to come at me with torches and pitchforks.
4 – PokeRemixStudio, Leaftail, Kirby-Chan, LucarioMarioMy mum's just like this... She says that next year I'll be allowed to play 16+ games (I'm 14 now). Last year I managed to convince her to allow me to get Halo, because apparently she's fine with shooting aliens, but when it comes to humans it's a big no-no. And no, she hasn't seen multiplayer ![]()
And I do play TF2... But my mum doesn't know that I do. It's a PC game, and if I'm buying a game online she doesn't bother to check it. :3
But it does bug me. Almost all of my peers play games like CoD, or Fallout or the like, and I feel a bit left out sometimes.
My parents don't really find any of the games I've played inappropriate. They don't really care what I play cause they know I'm not gonna play GTA then go around shooting up a mall and running over people.
My dad is pretty cool with the shooting games I've played. I've actually sat down with him and played GTA and Army of Two before and he never said anythin' about it. :3
As because my parents don't care about the games I play I can't really be insulted by this. But hypothetically if they did I would be insulted. Yea ok a play a war game so what am I going to start a war in school and shoot everybody trying to get a 5 kill streak before I die and then respawn? No thats a myth games you play has no affect on the kid. I personally think it's a good way to let of steam. There's no need for my parents to censor the games they swear and talk about stuff like that a the time. I think I was playing GTA at the age of 7. Just running around killing people and running the people over. So yes basically if they did censor games for me I would be insulted but they don't do yay!
Depnds on who's doing it. If my parents say it, then I won't put up much of a fight because they're probably right. But if someone off the street tells me I'm too young for CoD and to go back to Mario, then I'll attack them with strong words.
But because I'm 17 now I don't have to worry about that ^~^
