Pokemon. Seriously, 2 years later, AND I STILL WONDER HOW IT GETS SO MUCH POPULARITY! It's such a big hit, it's made a big load of movies. And, to be honest, I think Sonic should be more popular then Pokemon at times. Anyways, thoughts on why this became such a big hit and why?

EDIT: What I meant was "How did the series get so popular"

Thread opened again.

I think that Mario means what is so special about Pokémon that made it that Phenomenon in the last couple of years?

Considering this thread was posted in "Pokémon General", I'm assuming Mario was talking about Pokémon, too.

Anyways, back to the question: I think one reason why Pokémon is currently a phenomenon is due to how long it has been around; we all remember the good old days when we used to watch the animé as little kids, admiring all the Pokémon which we see (Pikachu, Charizard, etc). Now the animé is just one aspect of the big world of Pokémon, which also consists of games, movies and merchandise. I believe that the animé, among all those aspects, has caused many little kids to become dedicated fans who grow up alongside Pokémon. This, in turn, gives a reason why Pokémon has become a highly successful franchise in the years.

Adding to what Shadow said it's also hyped up more than it should be which makes children and adults alike want more Pokemon I mean it's every where look in japan posters are in Mcdonalds for crying out loud not to mention all the candy and toys and even sodas that pokemon represent, it's everywhere which makes it kinda like a lifestyle.

I should also add that the games themselves added a lot of new fans. Simply, the games are always considered one of the first 10 games in the world, and that is just incredible. I know people that are addicted to the games but don't like the animé much. Nevertheless, the animé that has been airing since years and years ago did have its major effect.
