I was debating thing with a friend one day, we were talking about those Pokemon that dont really recieve much attention, and might unfortunately be forgotten. I love Pokemon to death and all, but it makes me feel sad that the Pokemon i list below dont come to my mind when im asked to name Pokemon off the top of my head. Maybe im not big enough of a fan, but meh, you decide.
Picture yourself 10 years down the road, a random person asks you to name 30 Pokemon off the top of your head, would Pokemon like Spoink, Burmy, Dunsparce, Kecleon, Gulpin, Quilfish, Snubbul and Paras come to your mind? Or popular ones like Pikachu, Lucario, Moltres, Rayquayza, etc.?
IMO those Pokemon i listed first above dont recieve enough attention. (or maybe im not that big of a fan yet) Of course, i could name them in an instant if i saw pictures of them, but do you think future Pokemon players will even know that these pokemon exist?
Whats your opinion?
edit: Whoops, wrong icon :/. There, now its a sad face. Thanks for pointing that out Alakazamaster
I have to disagree with the Dunsparce suggestion. I've seen huge clubs about Dunsparce and Fan-art of it's evolution. Just search for images for "Dunsparce evolution". They have him as this dragon-rattlesnake thing.
When I think of Pokemon, I tend to think of my favorites and not the generation theme or Legendary Pokemon. You can see the forgotten Pokemon from the PokeDexes of each generation, which are usually the "one-per-game" Pokemon, like Eevee, Hitmonlee/chan, etc.
Why would you put a smiley face on a topic this sad? XD
I don't think certain Pokemon will be forgotten like "Ponyta? What the heck is that?" so much as no one will think of them anymore. Heck, I barely think about Happiny and Loudred these days, since they aren't popular like Pikachu, and they aren't particularly great battlers.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN I'LL BE FORGOTTEN!?"

I have to disagree with the Ponyta comment, since it was the ONLY Fire-type, other than the starter, in Pokemon D/P before the National Dex. I think people will remember Ponyta and hate it with a passion. xD
And since Happiny is in the anime (Brock's Pokemon) it won't fade away that fast. Same with Loudred, since it was in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series.

I guess, but if I was asked to name 30 Pokemon, I'll need to know if the person asking is a noob or an actual fan. A noob wouldn't know about Doduo, Sentret, or Wurmple, but if you were to say Pikachu (the most obnoxious Pokemon in the world due to its ridiculous fame), they'd be like "Pokemon!? That's for babies!" ((That's when you go cr@zy-mad on them.))
Super Bump - A disturbing thought just crossed my mind.. Do you guys think that even the legendary bird trio may be forgotten?
I was out in town today and i heard some kids (quite young, no older than 11) naming out as many Legendaries as they could, not once did i hear Moltres, Articuno or Zapdos. *screams in horror*
No, the bird trio wont be forgotten. This is why - older fans love the original games. Because those kids were super young, they probably don't even know what R/B/Y is. Nor do they know what Fr/Lg is.
Younger Pokemon fans have only played the more recent Pokemon games (D/P/Pt and Hg/Ss) so they don't know what some of 1st gen Legendaries are.
I am actually afraid of the fact that younger Pokemon fans think they will know everything about Pokemon because they only played 4th gen and up. I can imagine myself about 4 years older (so I will be 19) walking and over-hearing two friends (no older than 10) talking about Pokemon and they will think they know every thing because they have only played 5th gen.
True Pokemon fans are the ones who have been around (or at least played the original) since the beginning. I will not be happy when I get older and find little kids thinking they are better than me only because they say so and only been around since B/W.
Yeah, it would piss me off to hear kids talking like that too. But a "true fan" dosent necessarily (spelling?) need to have played every game from RBY till B&W, saying that would be unfair to most people nowadays as they werent even born during RBYs year.
But I guess you could say a true fan is one that would BOTHER to research about the history of Pokemon games, etc.
Meh.. ive posted too much tonight :/ Gotta sleep and go to school tomorrow D:
Night people.

Well, at least this isn't Digimon we're talking about. I heard there's about a thousand Digimon out there and there's only around 600 Pokemon.

I fear that Sunkern, Seedot, and Lotad will become forgotten.

Dunsparce, lickitung and qwilfish?!
Nahhhh.
Dunsparce is known for simply how useless it is.
qwilfish will be known by a few competitive UU players. Apparently hes popular there. *coughkazcough*
Lickitung...ok maybe but I like lickitung~! <3
A truly forgettable pokemon is corsola. I forgot that thing existed til a few days ago when I saw a corsola only run for pokemon crystal. Seriously though that pokemon is just the definition of average and forgettable Poor thing. :<
I dunno, maybe Chimeco. Other than the trainers, I've only found it ONCE in the wild my entire life. It took about 1 1/2 hours to find it. Stupid duskull.... One things for sure, magikarp will NEVER be forgotten. (Or something like pinsir or the pre-evolution of marill will be forgotten...)
