Has WiFi ever said that if you want to try Wifi for your 5th time it says that it will erase your friends?

Sounds like it might have not recognized your DS. That's usually the reason why it would delete your friends.

...That way, you can get newer, better friends.

Well if it doesn't reconize your DS try transfering the setting to your DS using the one you first used wi-fi with.

I thought that only happened when you use wifi from a different DS? That happened when I got a DS lite

Yes. You can trasfer settings from one DS, DSi, or DSLite (although there are rumors with the DSi) with the transfer tool.
Remember, you must use that DS card for Wi-fi on only one ds.

Friend Codes change from system to system, so if you were using a different DS, you would have to reset your Friend Code and all WiFi data, thus indeed "losing your friends".

Now, you can transfer WiFi data between DS's to keep your Friend Codes. HOWEVER, I don't know of anyway to transfer DSi stuff to a DS Lite or a DS, because I haven't tried that. I'm pretty sure you can but I don't want to take chances.

Weird, I don't remember this error. My brother got a ds lite and could not connect to wifi through his game so I transferred it after looking up how, no problems at all. So as everyone said, if you transfer it should be fine ^^.

Personally I still have the original fat DS FTW .
