Arena - The Mall
A very wide area. From the start, each pokemon gets +1 speed and +1 attack, but -1 special attack and special defense. Every now and then, a siren from a pesky little kid will go off. In the middle is a big fountain that water and electric pokemon get their attack powers doubled, but everything else goes -1. Trainers can sit on ledges on the sidelines.

Black Ice's nimble body allowed her for a swift strike. She dashed at an incredibly fast pace, making it difficult for Topaz to keep track of the Sneasel's movements. Before he knew it, Black Ice struck Topaz with her sharp claws, dealing a bit of damage. Topaz didn't outwardly show it, but the attack had caught him off guard.

Abra kept eyes shut and made very little movement after he was hit. He began to form a small ball of light in between his hands, which didn't seem to grow too much. After a while, it began to pulsate and send out signals at terribly high frequencies, hurting Black Ice's ears. When Topaz fired it, Black Ice had no time to react before it slammed into her. She fell backwards, damaged by the super-effective hit, but when she arose, her eyes were blood red with fury. She began to claw at the ground, and it became evident that she was thoroughly confused.

Black Ice was slashing away like mad, for what apparently seemed to be no reason. In her haste, she suddenly disappeared, but would reappear somewhere, still slashing at the ground. Much to her luck, however, one attack managed to glance off of Topaz, landing a hit! Topaz was again a victim of luck.
(Abra: -11 Health, Sneasel: -4 Energy, CONFUSED for 4 more turns)

Topaz didn't like where things were going. He had managed to hinder Black Ice for a moment, so he decided to set up to a Substitute. Using up a little energy, and a whole chunk of health, he set up a duplicate, with which he hid and would use the time to restore a bit of health that he otherwise would have lost.

Black Ice was still incapacitated, as she continued to strike the ground forcefully and maliciously. However, still, out of the corner of her ears, she could still hear her trainer calling to her. She didn't really hear what it was, though...but she managed to hear "Substitute". So she did as ordered, creating a doll much like Topaz's.

Topaz decided to try incapacitate the Sneasel further. Mustering up all his charms, he sent a barrage of pink hearts towards the opponent. However, Black Ice hid behind the doll, and was unaffected by the attack. The Substitute had effectively blocked the attack!

Despite now having the Substitute up, Black Ice was still plagued with confusion. She could still hear her trainer's orders, though, and the confusion hadn't set in deep. Thus, she quickly carried out her attack before the confusion had a chance to take hold of her movements. She unsheathed her sharp claws, and sliced like mad at Topaz's Substitute. In doing so, she heard a tear in the Substitute; she soon realized that she had hit a sharp point in Topaz's Substitute, and that resulted in a critical hit!
(Abra's Substitute: -11 Health, Sneasel: -3 Energy, CONFUSED for 2 more turns)

Topaz heard the tear and was slightly worried. Still, he was more concerned with building up his own defenses. Thus, he cleansed his mind of all thoughts, and built up his brainpower. He hoped that in doing so, Black Ice might have a few more issues dealing with the Substitute, and that he could take her Substitute out more quickly.

Seeing how Topaz was reeling back, waiting to strike, Black Ice decided to defend. Chanting some incantations while making odd gestures, she flung her arms forward and suddenly something was there. Out of thin air, a mystical green barrier had been generated. It seemed pretty sturdy, but Black Ice knew this would only work once. She was also amazed that the confusion hadn't grabbed hold of her yet.

Topaz knew that he had to tear down that Substitute doll, so he reeled back, ready to strike. Almost clasping his hands together, an odd energy formed. Firing it from his hands, it flew straight to the Substitute. Right before it hit the doll, though, a mystical force dissipated the Signal Beam in all directions, and then shattered itself. Topaz was baffled.
Abra: Attack FAILED (Protect), -8 Energy

Struggling to fight under the confusion, Black Ice prayed that it would end soon. She mustered up an attack. She ran halfway to Topaz, and then executed a ninja-like jump. Falling diagonally towards Topaz, she unsheathed her sharp claws. Right before the attack landed, Topaz teleported out of the way, his Substitute right where he once was. Landing, Black Ice gave a glancing blow to the Substitute doll. Even better for her, the confusion seemed to have ended!
Sneasel: -5 Energy, CONFUSION lifted
Abra's Substitute: -6 Health

Topaz, still trying to erradicate the pesky Substitute, tryed the same strategy as before. Nearly closing his hands together, another strage energy formed. He fired it at the Substitute doll once more. This time nothing stopped it, and the doll had it. Forming several tears from the massive blast, Black Ice's Substitude amazingly held. Clearly, though, this was the way to go.
