I have been wondering if there would ever be a remake of Super Mario Land. The 1989 game for Gameboy lets you guide Mario through the Sarasaland Kingdom, each kingdom in Sarasaland, Birabuto, Muda, Easton and Chai, challenges Mario to obstacles and enemies, at the end you save Princess Daisy from Tatanga's evil clutches. So what do you think of a DS/Wii remake of this game or this and Super Mario Land 2?

I don't think that will happen for two reasons.

The game is currently out on Virtual Console right now.

It's one of the most obscure games in the series being one of the first games not to have Miyamoto's involvement.

I dunno, it may just be me, but I thought it was a downright terrible game as well. But that may just be my own feelings.

Edit: I mean, not CDi terrible, but still anything but good.

I thought it was an okay game, myself being personally more interested in Super Mario Land 2: The Golden Coins or something like that. Is a remake likely? Probably not. Would I be interested in buying one if it did? Sure, why not.

I agree with FW. It's easily one of the worst few Mario games besides the notoriously bad.

I agree with both of you. It was a horrid game (from what I have heard) and how would you make a remake of it?! I somtimes belive a old game is better than a new game. This will a scenario where that statment doesn't go out quite well.

It was definitely a very -weird- game. It was also a bit difficult. If anything though, SML was very -obscure-. It won't get a remake for the reasons Mag outlined at the beginning of the thread.

I personally love Super Mario Land, Wario Land 1 is pretty good but Super Mario Land is better, How is it horrid and obscure?

The physics are completely different from the rest of the main series (in a bad way), the sprites look horrific, proportions of everything are completely screwed up. Need I go on?

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it on the head. Though, when you think about it, that /could/ actually make a remake slightly more... "appetising"? I mean, I've played the game (via millions of save states), and should it have a remake the graphics and sprites could actually look like something, the physics could actually work (they seem straight out of a TI-84 calculator game instead), etc. I mean, if nothing else, the game itself /seems/ interesting in an LSD-sorta way... I dunno, just a thought

Well, that is true. A remake would definitely fix all of those problems (and more). It's just not necessary, though.
