So I had $10, looking for a good gamecube game at Gamestop. I was thinking of getting Star Fox Adventures, but instead I got Soul Caliber 2 because for one reason alone, take a guess.....If you haven't noticed the anwser is Link from the Zelda series. I couldn't resist so I bought Soul Caliber 2 instead. And I wasn't dissapointed, this is my second fighter with TvC being my first. (and no, SSB series DOES NOT count) Now, onto the review.
Soul Caliber was a game made on the sadly underrated Dreamcast then after nearly four years, made the sequel on the PS2, Xbox, and of course the Gamecube. The PS2 version had Headhikei from the Tekken series, the Xbox version had Spawn from the comic book series, and the Gamecube had Link from the Legend of Zelda series.
Soul Caliber 2 review
This is my first hardcore fighting game so I shall treat it like that. The gameplay is not for newcomers new to games. It's a game that takes a lot of skill and your going to have to deal with the frustration in some fights ,but overall the experience is fun. Now, I can't review the multiplayer for Soul Caliber 2 since I don't have any friends to invite however from what I've played the game must be very fun with friends. There is team mode where you have up to three characters without switching your character and defeat the other three and time attack as well as the average arcade. Arcade mode plays like how Tatsunoko vs Capcom does. The story in Arcade mode (yes there is a story) is four years have passed since the Calibersword took out Soul Edge. Soul Edge is defeated and shattered to pieces across the land. An evil dark lord has his bird catch all the pieces of the shards for him to piece it back together. He gets all the pieces and turns into a fire beast called Inferno and you have to beat all the fighters to get to him. Time attack is basically the same thing ,but with a timer. There is also a weapon master mode where you go across the land and unlock/ collect weapons for your character and costumes for each character. The graphics don't dissapoint either and the framerate is fantastic there wasn't any slow down at any moments while I was playing which is nice. Soul Caliber 2 is a great game. If you need to choose between the PS2, Xbox, and GCN, buy the Gamecube version. It has Link and you have the best control for fighting. Overall, Soul Caliber 2 is a great game, it just takes awhile for you to feel that way. Buy it.
