Hey everybody,

I'm new here and I had a question concerning the elemental punches (Shadow, Fire, Ice, Thunderpunch, any others I'm missing).

You use Counter to send them back, so do you raise Attack to make them stronger, or do you raise Special Attack because they're elemental?

Same goes for Waterfall: It looked like it got stronger when my attack was raised from Swagger.
I'm pretty sure Surf is Special Attack, but could somebody please tell me how you know what to raise for these kinds of moves?

In pokemon Emerald all Water, Grass, Electric, Dragon, Fire, Ice, pyschic, and Dark only had specials moves.

All the other types were pysical and Shadow punch isn't an elemental punch

This was changed after Emerald came out in Daimond and pearl though.
