Microsoft recently released a plugin for the Firefox browser that enables it to use the H.264 video with the native HTML5 video format. This is only available on Windows 7, and it uses a technology only available in that version. With this in mind, current HTML5 video support can now be described as (approx. usage share in parents):

CodecInternet Explorer 9 (<1%)Chrome (15%)FireFox (25%)Safari (5%)Opera (2%)
Ogg TheoraWith DirectShow FilterBuilt-inBuilt-inNopeBuilt-in
H.264Built-inBuilt-inWith Microsoft PluginBuilt-inNope
Google VP8With DirectShow FilterBuilt-inBuilt-inNopeBuilt-in

I do personally encourage all users of Firefox and Windows 7 to download this plugin. Additionally... I hate Safari.

Ok, I use Firefox. And it is the latest version, but I have a few questions - when exactly would I use HTML5? Do I use it without knowing it (which would be odd because I don't have this plugin)? I want to know what I'm downloading before I download it.

And yes, I am technologically slow.
