Hello everyones! The name is Niko, Niko Linni, and I am a newbie to this site you call victory road. I hope I meet losta great people and have a good time!
Anyway, a few weeks ago I started making a Doom II mod called Darkness; basically it's gonna be a 32 level mega wad that adds in extra monsters and replaces the music with videogame music from other places. Originally I was just looking for map testers, but then a friend on another forum suggested I form a team to make things a little easier. So, not only am I looking for testers, but also anyone interested in being on the team. This could be coming up with story ideas, monsters to use, level design, ideas for such, music ideas, etc. Contact me if you're interested.
Now, for those of you who don't have Doom II and do not wish to obtain it, feel free to download FreeDoom. This is essentaily a free game that plays very similar to doom; it uses the Doom Engine (id tech 1), however all the monsters, music, graphics, etc are all made by the makers of free doom. Once you obtain freedoom or DoomII, you need to get ZDoom or Skulltag. These are basically ways of running Doom games on modern systems, and addin new features like crouching, jumping, etc. In fact, Darkness is being made with ZDoom and Skulltag in mind, so using those features is recommended (eventhough I forget I can crouch while in a firefight D: ). Skulltag is fairly easy to set up, but if you're goin' ZDoom, you should get ZDL (ZDoom Launcher). It makes it easier to launch doom games with ZDoom, trust me.
Oh, and for level design, I require you use DoomBuilder or DoomBuilder II. That's what I use and I dun want any unexpected
Well, as I complete the mod I'll add screenshots and level descriptions as well. I dunno the rules about violence and religious stuff (since there are pentagrams in the game..it's Doom), I'll try to make sure the screenshots keep questionable content such as that out of the screenshots.
Now, for progress status and team roster.

Alright, let's get modding.
Ok, so now that I'm done with finals (praise the heavens) I can put a little bit more work into this Mod. So, here are the details on the story. Organizations marked with a (*) are names that will/can be changed. If you have an idea for what to call any of these organizations, feel free to voice what you think.
Your character(*) is part of a task force(*) tasked with the objective of infiltrating the Blue Army(*), who have been reported as doing research into more of the occult and supernatural. The Blue Army has been fighting with your nation(*) for quite a while now, and the Task Force feels that if these occult and supernatural secrets are cracked it could have disastrous world wide consequences.
Your mission is simple: Infiltrate the Blue Army's Base(* for this one we can just leave it as "their base" or we can come up with a creative name if we feel like it) and find out what's going on. It did sound quite simple, just get in and find their computer room and download the information, but then along the way you noticed something...odd. Of course there were the Blue Army soldiers, and as expected there were the soldiers that got into the occult and started experimenting with magic. But then there were the soliders that were mutated, possibly from exposure to the occult energies. Not only that, there were monsters too, possibly from the dimension the Blue Soldiers are getting their occult arts from(*). Pressing on further down the base you find the computer room, guarded by some arcane knight. Down the hidden elevator in the computer room you find a secret part of the base housing their deepest and darkest secrets...
Ok, so there's the basic backstory. The game starts outside the base, and the player gets to fight their way up to the computer room and beyond. I'll include a level listing later on in the post with short descriptions to help explain the progress. For now, I will list the monsters being used in the game, and their "role" as well. As you may or may not have been able to tell, the storyline for this game doesn't use the same Doom ideas ie the monsters the player fights aren't the minions of hell but rather monsters from another dimension and stuff like that. Each monster there fore has a new "role"; for example, the Former Humans are members of the Blue Soldiers that were mutated by the occult energies. First I'll list the monsters that have been used in the game as well as their roles, and then I'll list the monsters that can be used but haven't been inserted into a level and given a role. If you'd like to suggest any extra monsters, you can check out this page: http://www.realm667.com/index.php?op...d=8&Itemid=136
Now, on with the list
Monsters Used in Game (format will be: Original name from Doom/Hexen/etc-Name for Mod, some names will stay the same as original name-description)
*Abbadon--Abbadon
These dark grey horrors are superpowered versions of the Cackles (new name for cacodemons). Four times as fast, four times as durable, and for times as strong. Kill it fast, and doge the energy balls it shoots: a couple hits can put you out. They usually lurk in secret areas, or dark places, or heck, they just might want to ambush you and laugh. A monster from the other dimension.
*Acolyte--Dark Arts Mage
The Dark Arts Mage (or just "Mage" for short) is a member of the Blue Army new to the occult magics and there fore is a little inexperienced. Though their stream of fire balls are rather damaging and their ability to doge quickly may make them hard to hit, they can be defeated rather easily. Mages at first appear uncommon, but their numbers increase the closer you get to the occult secrets.
*Afrit--Afrit
The Afrit is a fire-manipulating monster, often used to guard areas or to clear out groups of opponents with their damaging fire magics. Though they deal out good damage, just like the Mages they can be defeated with a few well places Super Shotgun blasts. These are summoned from the other dimension.
*Belephegor--Belephegor
A version of the Baron that is twice as strong. Very durable and very damaging. These monsters usually are posted to guard something powerful or valuable. Summoned from the other dimension.
*Blood Demon--Blood Demon
A half mechanical variant of Pinkie. Just because they are twice as strong as Pinkie doesn't mean that they are incredibly hard to beat though. Primarily used to assault enemies.
*Butcher--Hammer Guard
The Hammer Guard is a tough fellow in the Blue Army with a really damaging hammer blow attack that will only work close range. It takes quite a few Shotgun blasts to put him down, but just keep out of his range and you'll survive.
*Cacolantern--Cackle Light
The Cackle Light is twice as strong as twice as fast as the Cackle, though not nearly as powerful as the Abbadon. These fellows aren't afraid of the light like the Abbadons or Cackles, hence the name Cackle Light.
*Cultist--Cultist
Another one of the occult magic users.
*Death Knight--Death Knight
Clear the streets when these guys appear...very powerful monsters of death who shoot magic from their blades. Very difficult to kill, with a shield that can reflect shots. So far has only been found guarding the main area of the computer room.
*Disciple--Disciple
A Disciple of the occult arts. Though more uncommon than the Mage and more powerful, they are still just as easy to defeat as the Mage.
*Evil Knight--Guard
The Guard is another solider of the Blue Army. Though at first limited to only sword attacks, the new occult magic gave them the ability to shoot spread shot blasts of fire from their swords. The shots are easy to dodge from far away, and the Guard will fall after a few Shotgun blasts.
*Hell Rose--Hell Rose
A plant monster that started to grow in the secret compartments of the base where occult arts reign supreme. Their tentacles are dangerous, but can be destroyed when surfacing to attack.
*Incubus--Incubus
A very tough and powerful cousin of the Mancubus. So far only encountered guarding the main hallway to the base.
*Plasma Zombie--Plasma Soldier
The Plasma Soldier is a Blue Army Soldier who wields a plasma rifle. Though they only shoot every few seconds and one shotgun blast can fell them, their plasma blasts are very damaging.
*Slime Worm--Slime Worm
These fellows are icky worms who will bite when confronted upclose and spit acid when targets are afar. They seem to be natural residents of the other dimension.
*Suicide Bomber--Suicide Bomber
A Blue Army soldier trained to hone in on you and blow itself up and hopefully take you with it. When confronted around other monsters, try to shoot him to make him blow up and hopefully hurt or take out other enemies.
*Super Shotgun Zombie---SuperShotgun Solider
A mutated blue army soldier wielding the supershotgun. Be careful combating these fellows up close...they have the mighty Super Shotgun and they know how to use it.
*Vampire--Vampire Mage
The Vampire Mage (or Vamp Mage) is a variant of the Mage who uses darker magic and can summon and shoot flocks of bats at their enemies. Usually found in dark places.
*Former Human--Rifle Soldier
A mutated, common soldier of the blue army who wields a rifle. May appear in stealth (invisible unless hit or attacking)
*Former Sargent--Shotgunner
A mutated blue army soldier trained to use the shot gun. May appear in stealth
*Chaingunner--Chaingunner
A mutated blue army captain who skillfully uses the chain gun to take out enemies no matter how far they are. May appear in stealth.
*Imp--Imp
A mischievous monster summoned by the blue army to build their ranks. They use fire balls from far away and claw when up close. Fairly common. Sometimes appear in stealth.
*Dark Imp--Dark Imp
A more powerful version of the imp. It seems like these lead groups of imps around.
*Cacodemon--Cackle
A red monster who was also summoned. Though they prefer darkplaces, they'll stick to whatever post their given. They earned the name Cackle for that wide grin they have. May appear in stealth.
*Demon--Pinkie
Pinkies are pink monsters (hence the name) that like nothing more than to approach their enemies and chomp them up. May appear in stealth
* Specter--Specter
A Specter is a Pinkie that has camouflage to make them harder to see so they can sneak up on unsuspecting opponents.
*Mancubus--Mancubus
The Mancubus is another summoned monster who was mechanically modified to have two fire ball shooting guns for arms (by who we don't know). Though their fireballs are damaging and they take a lot of hits to kill, after a while besting these foes becomes easy. May be stealthy.
*Arachnotron--Spider-Mech
The Spider Mech is yet another cybernetically modified monster...again, we don't know if the other dimension modified them or the blue army did. Shoots plasma blasts, may appear in stealth.
* Reverent--Reverent
Some sort of half robot half skeleton monster that shoots fire balls that can hone in on your location. They'll punch when upclose, and may appear in stealth.
*Lost Soul--Ghost
The Ghost is a flaming skull that flies at attackers. Easy to dispatch of, but in groups they can get annoying.
*Baron of Hell--The Baron
The Baron is a tough monster who is rather uncommon. They'll shoot green blasts from afar and claw when close. May appear in stealth.
*Knight of Hell--Knights
The Knights are slightly weaker versions of the Barons. May appear in stealth.
*Pain Elemental---Ghoul
The Ghoul is a flying fiend who shoots Ghosts at enemies. Upon dying they explode into Ghosts.
*Nazi SS--Blue Soldier
The Blue soldiers, though weak and not very threatening, appear all over the place and are constantly trying to kill you. What are they hiding??
And here ends the list of monsters used in the game. Now, these are the monsters that have not been used, but exist within the Darkness WAD and are accessible:
*Archivile
*Cyberdemon
*Commander Keen (it's listed as a monster in doom builder...)
*Hectebus (Mancubus but black and more powerful)

Wheew! There we go. I'll post the level list/description later.
1 – GalliumGrantAllright, finally got a new updated version of Darkness uploaded. Now you really need Zdoom or skulltag, because I dunno what other source ports have jumping and MP3 music support. Here's the link:
http://www.2shared.com/file/0meFy721/Darkness.html?
levels 1 - 6 are completed. the rest will just be normal Doom II levels if you go on to play them, but of course the music will be changed.
Here is the older version of Darkness for comparison, I think it has levels 1 - 3 done.
