I posted this on Pokecommunity.

Quote:
There's not gonna be a Halloween for me this year u_u. Just like last year. When you reach my age, trick-or-treating is "a thing of the past" apparently and your parents frown on you for even thinking of it.

As a kid and as a teen, I loved to trick-or-treat. Especially in my later years. I'll never forget the wonderful experiences of seeing all the different costumes and decorations on peoples' houses. I'd always come home with enough candy to last through Christmas. No one can take away the magic of Halloween...well, almost no one.

There comes a time when your parents just don't want to have fun anymore. My mom said that I'm not going to trick-or-treat, not even with my friend because I'm "too old." I can't even go with my friend. So what does she say we're going to do? "We're going to stay home and do nothing." She actually said that. I don't get it...all the little kids are having the time of their lives, and their parents are enjoying it too. I love the Halloween costume I have now (necromancer) and I see no reason to stop enjoying myself on Halloween.

Last year, I was supposed to go to a Halloween Party. I was told there was going to be a dance with plenty of stuff to do. When we got there, it turns out that there was a new owner of the place and that she decided to charge everyone to attend, when it's always been free to members. Only about 6 people actually attended. There was no party. I was heart-broken that night. So I just walked out of there, leaving my parents behind. I walked home, took off my costume, and went to bed.

Next morning, I didn't get any compensation. Didn't even get any sympathy. It was just another day. Halloween didn't happen that year, and it won't happen this year either. There are no parties in my area, and even if they were, the only person who can drive is in another country.

This is what I have to say about Halloween:

"When you reach the magical age that kids want to be, the magic is gone."
There was a big Halloween event on Pokecommunity that was supposed to be the greatest thing ever. I've been reminded time and time again, it ain't so great. I posted this on the very thing it was supposed to be in, but I got zero responses. Nobody seems to care about those who are denied Halloween. They're too busy chatting about costumes and trick-or-treating that they've forgotten those who aren't as lucky to even do these things.

This is why I hardly use Pokecommunity anymore. People just outright ignore me, even when I have problems.

The fact that I can't go anywhere for Halloween is depressing me. What hurts even more is that no one seems to care other than a select few who I know on VR. Pokecommunity doesn't give a flying boot about my issues. They're too busy enjoying the exciting events.

I wonder if anyone else has gone through this.

Whose your mother to stop you from having fun? You already have your costume, I say you get out there with your friend tomorrow (or 2 days from now, wherever your from) and dont look back.

I believe that in life, the only person that can take happiness away from you, is yourself. I dont sit back and watch magic and nostalgia die in front me. I jump out there and take it back, or die trying (metaphorically).

Sure your parents might frown upon you. Many people look down on me for playing Pokemon, but I dont really give a rats ass, its my life, I'll make my self happy however the hell I want.

Hm.. I think it was 8th grade that I stopped trick-or-treating. Not because I didn't want to, but because I preferred playing the computer over that, Madden 07 to be exact. Then we moved the next year and in 9th grade I did the same thing. What do you think I'll be doing tonight, as a 10th grader? Madden 07.

It's my own tradition I guess. And it's not that I don't get candy or anything - my 2 sisters give me what they don't like, and I always go to a thing at my church which ends up giving me as much candy as anyone could get on Halloween.

To be honest, I cannot find any suitable reason for justifying your mom's reaction to your request. Yes, you should obey and respect her, but now she's just restricting you from 'having fun' due to a very silly reason. Also, by the same logic, you shouldn't watch cartoons and play games because you're old for them. This just doesn't make any sense to me, and I'm sure most, if not all, the members over here will agree as well.

Did you try to talk convincingly with your mom about it? Like, tell her that many other people of your age and even older do the same thing? Also, what does your father have to say about the situation?

I know how you feel. For a certain few years, I haven't go anywhere and in that time is because I was depressed. I know your parents are strict but the reason to not go to Halloween is unreasonable. It's like saying you are too old to play video games but a lot of older people do it anyway.

Like Shadow said, you can tried to convince your parents with a logical agruement but if they deny you from Halloween then if you have relatives or friends that are planning to celebrate, you can asked if it's okay to stay at your relative's house to celebrate. I not sure if the idea is a good idea for you, but it's a suggestion. Whether you do, you don't let people ruin your fun.

That's so sad...even my sis is 16 and she still trick or treats. I do think you shouldn't have been denied the time to go have fun trick-or-treating with friends. In fact, I have to make up for not going last year because I was sick. X_X

My mom says she trick-or-treated until she turned 19. She constantly tells me I can trick-or-treat until whatever age I feel like. I deny because I personally feel I'm too old for it. That shoudn't stop you from wanting to though.

My advice is(if this takes place in a chat room), if no one is listening to you, pretend you're talking to someone else. Example:
You: Oh hey there, how ya' doin'?
Unexisting character: I'm doin' fine, how 'bout ya'self?
You: Oh, great, but nobody's listenin' to me so I figured I'd talk to ye' self.
YOU MAY WANT TO PROCEED THESE STEPS WITH CAUTION. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU CAN GET BANNED FOR THIS(I doubt it). EITHER WAY, BE CAREFUL.

This sad story does have a happy ending however (hopefully).
