My second review since The Legend of Zelda, I'm going to talk about my 3rd favorite franchise, Sonic. One of the greatest video game characters ever. And yet, no really sucessful Sonic games since Sonic Heroes. But, now Sonic has finally gotten back on track in Sonic 4. A GOOD Sonic game. (excluding Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing, or the Sonic Rider games) But, now with Sonic 4. I feel right at home while playing this gem of a game.
Presentation:
Outstanding, it looks really slick and done perfectly. The game might not have a tutorial ,but you can learn the controls from the main menu. It even shows how much progress you've made in the level and how many choas emeralds.
8.6/10
Gameplay:
The main thing that got me excited for this game is the gameplay in general. In my opinion, this game is better then New Super Mario Bros. Wii in my opinion. Much harder, and more satisfying once you finish a level and get the chaos emerald. A new feature they added (that came from Unleashed) was a new lock-on feature. Now, this makes the game a little bit too easy at times. But, it helps a lot on different levels. Splash Hill Zone plays a lot like Green Hill Zone from the original Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Genesis. But, once you pass there you get completely different and fun levels. The Casino Zone is generous and gives you a lot of rings and 1-ups. As well, as a bunch of spinning cards. The Lost Labyrinth insists of riding on a sphere and using a torch and light areas and exploding detonators. Mad Gear is a area that consist of using the gears to get across an area. There's an hard final boss at the end that does include a bit of skill and patience.
9.7/10
Graphics:
The graphics are remind me a lot of Sonic, and also the sound is upgraded to modern day, it really does look like a pretty Sonic game. Character models look a bit jagged and blocky, but only a little bit. And it does fit the style of that original Sonic feature you felt back then. And it does feel a lot like New Super Mario Bros. Wii in terms of graphic quality.
8.1/10
Final Verdict:
Sonic 4 isn't a great game by any mark,....IT'S A FANTASTIC GAME! Both new and old Sonic fans alike will love this breath of fresh air kind of game you would least expect out of Sonic and it's great to see you back Sonic. It really is. Sonic 4 is short and epic and well worth the download.
