I'm going to try to keep this short because I don't have much time, so I'm not sure it will be the best, but whatever.

I was hanging out with my friends in the city today, and we decided to see a movie. Half the group were women, so needless to say, we saw Easy A (Haha, rhymes). Anyway, I went in thinking it would be a chick flick, oping to be pleasantly surprised, and my God was I impressed.

Now this movie is rated PG-13, but it certainly comes close to being R. In fact, I recommend not taking your kids to this movie until they're at least 14. I say 13-year-olds could handle it, maybe 12-year-olds, but that's a bit of a stretch. Plus I know a lot of younger kids are allowed to see PG-13 movies, but this certainly is PG-13 for a reason.

Now with the warning out of the way, many people know the plot. A girl lies about losing her virginity, and the high school rumor web spirals it out of control, as the rumor web often does with things like that. I'm not one for giving away any more of the plot than the basic sentence everyone already knows, so I won't. But this movie is phenomenal. Yes, it is very similar to The Scarlet Letter, as many have pointed out, but it's not coincidental, and it's not a rip-off. In fact, there's a reason it's called Easy A.

The recurring themes and emotions in this movie are not only very clever and charming, but also an incredibly accurate portrayal of what life would be like for someone like that. Especially one at a school with a guidance counselor so dissatisfactory and a hardcore Catholic so influential. The movie is also an incredibly accurate display of high school life — pressure, drama, sexuality, and many more. Not to mention the outrageous comedy involved. And the references to John Hughes films are also very much appreciated. By myself, anyway.

I need to wrap this up, but for my final words: go see this movie. Even if you're a guy, you'll love it. It's another one of those movies you'd think is a chick flick, but isn't actually... at all. The cast gives an outstanding performance, as to be expected from Amanda Bynes and Aly Michalka. However, Emma Stone's performances were great in Superbad and presumably in Zombieland, a movie I have yet to see, but in Easy A, she was absolutely fantastic, probably the best of her career so far. And when you do go see it, be sure to look for jokes that you think are just one-liners coming back later on. Anyway, this movie is unquestionably worth the $10 ticket. If you don't intend on seeing it at any time, you'd better clear your plans for next weekend.

We had a debate about this movie in my english class last week over whether or not the movie's messages would have a negative impact on our sense of morality. This review makes me feel kind of interested in watching it.

Thanks! I'm thinking I'm going to start a review series for games and movies.

Anyway, this movie may not be an instant classic. In fact, it may never be a classic, but it's certainly worthy of being one. It's probably just about the closest you can get to a modern-day John Hughes film. If it gets overshadowed by other movies, then it will be a hidden gem of our generation.

And PRS, as someone who has seen it, I don't think it will. It's nearly impossible to describe why without describing a chunk of the plot (at least for someone like me who analyzes things a lot ), but because I've seen the types of feelings it juggles, I don't think it will. I'm not saying it will have any effect at all, but if it does, then it would probably in fact be positive.
