Turtwig because Piplups last form Empoleon is steel and water so its weak against fire and ground which is what it is supposed to beat and Infernape is weak against Torterra because Torterra is ground so case closed TORTERRA OWNS.

My favorite is Turtwig: I like Piplup the most of the unevolved forms, but I don't care for its evolutions.

In Kanto and Johto, I always liked the fire types most. [Charmander and Cyndiquil].

In Hoenn and Sinnoh, it goes to the grass. [Treecko and Turtwig].

So to answer the actual poll question, my favorite starter in Diamond/Pearl/Platinum is Turtwig.

I disagree with you as if you look closer to the stats of the three starters, you will find that Infernape is the fastest and has greater Attack. Torterra is good in Defense and Attack while Empoleon is a good Sp. Attacker. From experience, I found out that Torterra is the weakest among the three because Empoleon is faster than Torterra and can use Icce Beam which will OHKO Torterra immediately. Also, Infernape is capable of defeating Torterra from the first round by either Flare Blitz or Fire Blast. Also, Infernape is stronger than Empoleon as it can OHKO it with Close Combat. Thus, Infernape is the strongest. Anyway, it only depends one the user's opinion and in my opinion, Infernape ftw.

I choose Twiggy cause, for 1, look at my name, TurtwigX. And 2, grass types may have the most weaknesses and don't have many strong points, but I do believe that grass types have the most heart and potential out of them all. Turtwig, I choose you!

I suppose of the three Turtwig is my favorite, though Grotle is my least favorite stage one. Torterra has a tree on its back, so it wins no matter what.
