Okay, so after I got Flash 8 and the Adobe family, even the ones that I have no *****ing clue what there function is. Anyways, I made an animation in Photoshop, and I saved it to web device, as a .GIF, in hopes that I could use it as my Youtube Icon. But whenever I open up the file, it only displays an image

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong, and/or have any advice?

1. YouTube does not allow animated GIFs
2. Some programs will only show the first frame of an animated GIF, try using IE as it shows the entire animation

What about the few people that have animated icons and backgrounds? And, by IE you mean Internet Explorer? And does this website allow animated GIFs or JPEGs?

if size is to big youtube might be resizeing it causing only 1 frame to disply try reducing gif qulity

Please give me a link to at least one person who still has an animated avatar on YouTube. I thought that feature was disabled.

I, really, I KNOW I've seen one, his icon is these little orange coins stacking, I just can't remember his name. I think it's from back when you need to use URLs for icons.

No, I don't mean animated BACKGROUND, I mean animated PROFILE PICTURE (avatar, image, whatever). That's the little picture that appears on the left, below the Subscribe button. Setting an animated background is a piece of cake to get.

Visit your channel by clicking your username in the upper-right. Click the yellow Edit Channel button (where the Subscribe button normally is). Click Channel Design and...wait a minute! Hmm, they replaced it with an upload box. Well, I'm guessing the people that have linked images still get to use them.

Alright, testing with an alternate account, I tried to upload an animated GIF. It was no longer animated when it was added. Pasting a URL in the box makes the Update Channel button lock and give the error "File not provided for upload background image action."

So I guess it's not possible to add a new animated GIF, only if you leave one that was already hotlinked.

Heh heh heh! I can still get an animated background! I previously set my background image to a static GIF on my site. All I have to do is upload a different (animated) image to my website with the same filename.

I looked at your YouTube account. Your background image is hosted on YouTube and is not possible to change to animated.

You can't. If you didn't set it before YouTube removed that option, you no longer can.

No. You had to upload an animated GIF before the change.

I know, therefore you could've hosted this said GIF on your site.
