Hi there,

Recently after hearing about this rumor about the "DS2", I've been thinking about how stupid this is.

I mean, don't get me wrong, motion sensors are cool, and they could play a cool role in future games, but come on.

We just got the DSi in 2009, and DSIXL in 2010. I think they're overloading us on new Systems, where we only need ONE. And that ONE is just to play the game.

I'm a huge fan of Pokemon, and I have been since 1999ish. I've gotten nearly every game since, and I'd love to play the 5th Generation, but if they bring out a new system and force us to buy it in order to play the new games, it'll lose sales.

HOW IT CAN POSSIBLY BE FIXED

- Make the new games be playable on the old DS and make the DS2 just another DS like the XL.
__________________________

Sorry, I just felt so enraged that they're coming out with ANOTHER DS System.

What do you guys think?

A.) I want the new games to only be playable on the DS2

B.) I want the new games to play on both!

C.) I don't want them to make another system.

Thanks!

Moved to Gaming. (And I did it wrong at that, gotta move it again to Nintendo.)

This thread sums up one of my pet peeves: People ranting about rehashes when they have no information to go on.

Let's move to a new segment I like to call: Games! Annotated! Prepare for a long rant.

The Nintendo DS's original model came out in 2004. A year or so later, the DS Lite came out. I didn't see anyone arguing about how the DS Lite was just a DS with a gloss shell.

The Nintendo DSi was released in Japan two years ago, the DSi XL released a year LATER in Japan. Conversely, the DSi was released nearly one year ago in America, and around the first anniversary of the DSi, the DSi XL would be released here in the states.

Now, let me compare the DS to the DSi:

...actually, I can't, really. The DSi is a DS with updated, new hardware and software, as opposed to the DS Lite, which was a cosmetic improvement. The DSi XL is exactly the same as the DSi, just a cosmetic update. We haven't had the same system four times. Rather, we've had one system twice, then that system was upgraded then remade.

Now, here's the interesting bit that everyone seems to not know: The DSi XL and the DSi were INTENDED by Miyamoto to be released at the same time, giving users a choice of a large and small model. He also wanted to name the DSi XL/LL the DSi Deka.

The DSi Deka isn't an unneccasary rehash, it's simply a choice. If Nintendo had listened to Miyamoto, I guarantee you, this thread probably wouldn't exist.

I refuse to call the DSi XL/LL the DSi XL/LL. I will continue to call it the Deka.

Now then, the DS2.

THE SO-CALLED "DS2" IS NOT A DS. IT'S SIMPLY A FREAKIN' FANTERM FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF NINTENDO'S HANDHELD CONSOLE, INCORPORATING Wii-STYLE GRAPHICS AND MOTION SENSITIVITY. IT MAY OR MAY NOT BE BACKWARD COMPATIBLE, AND IT MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE DUAL SCREENS. GAME FREAK AND THE POKEMON COMPANY JUST HAPPEN TO BE HELPING WITH THE DEV PROCESS. THE DS2 WILL MOST LIKELY RECIEVE A JAPANESE RELEASE BY THE END OF 2011/EARLY 2012.

There, end caps.

I'm really sorry, I just hate it when people go off on tangents without any information to back them up, just opinion.

Also a crazy idea, you don't have to purchase every single revision.

My DS is the classic phat model, and that is all I need. I didn't pay up just to have brighter lights/sleeker appearance. And there is nothing really of interest on the DSi at the moment that would make it worth more to me then my current DS.

And just for lulz, lets look at how many PSP systems there were:
PSP (original), 2000, 3000 (AKA Slim/Lite), and PSP Go.
And how often do you hear people complaining about that as opposed to the DS?

I know I do. I'm just fanboying when it comes to things like that.

What I personally love about these PSP rehashes is that they literally have no difference except for availability of colors and size. And the PSPGo is actually WORSE.

Exactly! I still have the original DS and I don't want to replace it and pay more money just for stupid facilities.

I'd like to second that, since I see a lot of people confused with this point.

Anyways, I got a DS Lite as my first DS. I really like it, and I'm all happy with it. Neither does the DSi nor the DS XL/LL appeal to me, so I'm sticking to my DS Lite until they release a new, good hand-held console.

Also, let's come to face it: If they release a new hand-held console, then proceed to release a new Pokémon game/generation, almost all of the people will buy the console (at the end of the day). I have personally experienced that: I used to rant at the DS and the new 4th generation, but then, all of a sudden, I found myself purchasing a DS Lite along with Pokémon Platinum.

So, my conclusions are:

1) It may or may not be related to the DS.
2) Almost all people will purchase this console if there's a new Pokémon game on it.

DS2.

Let's see.

DS
Lite
i
XL
2

I think the 2 should actually be called the DS5. Or the DS-hey-look-another-crappy-upgrade-disguised-as-a-new-system.

I mean, really, There was nothing changed between the DS and lite, save a brighter screen and smaller size. There were a few fixes to the touch screen, which could have just been as a trade-in type thing.

The only thing I view worthwhile there is the added WiFi, which was a very good idea.

Lite-i:
Woo, a camera... NOT LIKE ANY GAME THAT WAS MADE COULD USE IT.

i-XL:
Wtf? People like the lite because it was small... Now they made it HUMONGUS?! Talk about falling down a hill.

XL-2: Since they're going as far as to call it the DS2, I'm guessiung it will have major hardware upgrades. Like upgraded graphics and stuff.

And no, when I see walls of text like Lite's, I don't read them. Reading them doesn't really effect my views anyway.

TL;DR version:

DS is to DS Lite as DSi is to DSi Deka, DS2 is a fanterm for the next generation of Nintendo's handheld, quit being so confuss about it.

Oh, and if you would like, I could provide links to articles regarding DSi games that aren't DLC.

Well, it sounded like motion sensing or an accelerometer would be present, for one thing. I'm guessing we might also see a slighter better camera and a higher definition screen (so same size, but more pixels so things look smoother and less pixely). I personally would like to see an MP3 player with quality format support (OGG, MP3, FLAC being my main formats in order from greatest to worst), but I doubt that. Maybe it'll act as the controller for the next console.
