Pokémon Sun & Moon's Island Challenge was a departure from Pokémon's normal gym leader structure. I thought the island challenge was good, and a good change, because the gym leader structure was feeling old to me. Overall, most of the Totem fights were not hard, and an increase in difficult would have been appreciated.

I quite enjoyed the Island Challenge and found it a nice change of pace from the age-old Gym League Challenge.

I feel like when Sun and Moon first came out I would have had a lot of things to say about the Island Challenge format, but now I can't think of much. I guess they're just the natural evolution (tee hee hee) of the Gym league; in the beginning a lot of the buildings were just buildings with simple obstacles and trainers scattered around, whereas in gens 5 and 6 they became way more elaborate and now in Gen 7 they just got rid of the leader and focused on the puzzles. It's all right, I guess.
