In preparation for Pokémon Sun and Moon, the Pokémon Global Link will be discontinued for the Generation 6 Pokémon games (X, Y, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire) this October. After the closure, features such as Game Sync, the PokéMileage Club, and Rating Battles will no longer function. As a farewell gift, starting Tuesday, July 26, 2016, and running until ceasing of operations, the following perks will be enacted: all attractions will be half price, several useful items will be going on sale, and the Ability Capsule will be available to purchase for 5,000 Miles.

The Global Trade Station (GTS), Wonder Trade, and Free Battles will be unaffected by the discontinuation.

The Global Link for Pokémon Sun and Moon is due for launch on November 18, 2016.

UPDATE: the Global Link will be closed at midnight on November 1, 2016.

I wish I could say this was more upsetting to me, but I really only used the Gen 6 Global Link maybe two or three times. I used the Gen 5 Global Link way more, the whole Dream World thing was really fun.

Have they said anything about what the Gen 7 Global Link will (or won't) look like?

Nope, we still don't know what the actual game is like.

Well at least we can nab ability capsules, for me this great as i do alot of breeding.

The specific date is November 1, so get your stuff while you can.

The Global Link has just closed. I think they enabled some kind of grace period in the last five minutes, as I was able to sync twice to use up my remaining Poké Miles.

I didn't have much time to play mini games yesterday so all went into redeeming Ability Capsules, PP Max, and Heart Scales. And the rest to random recovery items, since I needed to get it to under 2.

At least I got my stuff in both of my games... It is kind of bad that they had to end service earlier than Gen 7.

Usage statistics probably showed that it was time to end the service so they could focus fully on creating a stable server environment for the new games. They also realized that releasing Bank in January is smart because it avoids all the eShop registrations on Christmas.
