I wanted to post this earlier, but I think it's been a long enough time to sit on it.

What do you guys think of the soundtrack of X and Y overall? I personally think that the soundtrack of X and Y is the best of the main series so far, as the orchestral themes that play through much of the game are, in my opinion, phenomenal. Granted, there are some themes that grew redundant really quickly, especially the Trainer battle theme, and some themes that were too similar to older themes (I think the Rival Battle Theme didn't change much from Gen V to Gen VI...), but on the whole the soundtrack is amazing.

There are many to list, but my personal favorites are...

Awesome Music
Geosenge Town
Coumarine City
Anistar City
Snowbelle City
Santalune Forest
Tower of Mastery
Route 18/19
Team Flare Grunt Battle Theme
Champion Battle Theme
Bicycle Theme

So, comments on the soundtrack? And what are your favorite themes?

I like so much of the music. It fits really well together, and the trainer theme is definitely memorable.

Also, it looks like this will be the first Pokémon game to have the soundtrack released outside of Japan. Unfortunately, for those regions it will only be releasing to iTunes. Guess that means I'm going to still be picking up the CD.

The arrangement sounds similar to the overall Super Mario Galaxy vibe. I can hear some Good Egg, Gusty Garden, and whatever that thing was called in SMG2.

One of the things I've noticed is that Pokémon-Amie mini-games use sequenced music with BW soundfonts unlike most other music. Why? Probably dynamic layering and tempo changes.

Hey, IE10 didn't squiggly up Pokémon-Amie!

Oh I almost forgot one thing about the soundtrack

WHY DID THEY BRING BACK THAT GOD AWFUL LOW HEALTH NOISE? I mean, it's not as piercing as it was in 4th Gen and below, but I screamed out loud the first time I got to red.

I think enough people complained that the low health song ruined the epicness of major battles (particularly the awesome song for the champion in B2/W2) that they reverted to the beeping noise. Also, it only beeps four times instead of constantly.

That is true, I did complain how when I was too lazy to heal myself that listening to that song was gonna drive me crazy. Especially when it interrupted the perfect Elite Four battle theme.

I never liked it, but they also got rid of the climactic gym leader's last stand song, too.

Y'know, I've noticed that some parts of songs in the soundtrack remind me of songs from other games.

1. Victory Road Theme with Unused Theme from Pokémon Yellow

2. Route 15 with LoZ Twilight Princess Overworld Theme AND Final Fantasy 9: Crossing Over Those Hills
0:16- 0:45 Sounds like the Hyrule Field theme from Twilight Princess
0:46 - 1:01 Sounds like the Field theme from Final Fantasy 9

3. Santalune Forest with Final Fantasy 9: Evil Forest Theme

Oh, just a reminder, folks. No linking to the soundtrack due to some odd restrictions. Various game companies been really cracking down on soundtracks lately.

Anyway, I think I really enjoy the music played at this point:

It's probably because I've been doing it so much, but I really like the songs for Super Training. I might even feel motivated to do an 8-Bit Super Training medley.

Is it just me or does the Wild Battle Music kinda sound like that of Hoenn's?

Yeah, it definitely feels like Hoenn music.

The Gym Leader Battle music (I think it was that, at least) sounds a lot like the Gen I Champion Battle theme.

I feel the strongest connection somewhere towards the middle of the song, actually. I was singing it and suddenly broke out into Hoenn's version and confused myself.

Wow, I love the Champion music! Elite Four music is pretty good too.

Only open if you've seen the ending credits.
The credits music has words in French. I really would like to hear it sung. Hopefully that will be released on the official soundtrack. It's kind of odd how the French words (at least those I can pick out) don't match up with the English ones, but such is the liberty of multilingual music.

I think I've finally come to a conclusion about the soundtrack as a whole. While I don't exactly like how the overproduced Phil Spector-isms of Gen V's music came out, it was gripping. X and Y's soundtrack has a lot of very good tracks, the arrangements were soft and focused on wide, beautiful instrumentation. It reminded me a lot of D/P. Black and White had speedy, gripping arrangements, which is more my style (I think its music tainted my tastes.) I'm sure there's someone who enjoys an ambient sound, though.
My personal favorite song is the Gym Leader theme, my new 2nd favorite.

Reply
For the sake of keeping up with the rhythm. I sang the credits in both English and French, and the rhythm was perfect for both languages. Using the little bit of connection that Italian and French have as romance languages, I was able to see the difference. It's amazing how they did it that way.

Oh that's cool... Sneaking in a reply after a long absence, it's going to be a bit longer before I'm truly back. What else is in there that I am missing, reminiscent of other previous Pkmn titles? I don't have X or Y so I can't really add to what I think about the soundtrack Cat.

Some post-game spoilers, even though I haven't beaten the 7th gym
Alright, so here is a list of my favourite themes:

(15) Pokémon Centre theme - Reminds me a lot of some of the music from XD based on the use of instruments.

(20) The theme when you're gathered with your friends - So upbeat!

(23) Rival battle theme - I... trumpets.

(30) Pokémon Ranger/Roller skater theme - This one has a pretty snazzy sound to it!

(36) Sycamore's theme - Gosh, probably one of my all-time favourites in any Pokémon game. A beautiful theme for a beautiful man. So French (with a hint of Italian, yum)!

(44) Firework theme between you and Serena - A sweet tune indeed.

(46) Battle Castle - Nice bass tones.

(54) Bicycle theme - That guitar! And the... uh, like the more epic tune in the middle without the guitar accompaniment!

(58) Honeymooners theme - This one makes laugh for an odd reason...

(59) Calem's theme - (The calm one where he's just talking normally.) Mmm, piano.

(61) Shalour theme - Gosh, I can't remember the name of the instrument, but you'll know what I'm talking about. It's so... beautiful.

(65) Power Plant/Pokéball Factory theme - So techno! Those whistle-y noises!

(69) Horror story theme (Scary House) - Chills.

(71) Frost Cavern - The build up to the theme is cool, and then the music is pretty epic!

(74) Anistar City theme - Reminds me a lot of some of the more serious parts from the Mystery Dungeon series with the bells and things.

(77) Terrible Past theme - The soft and serious tones mixed... Awesome.

(79) AZ's theme - Again, so tender. Pleasing to the ears and the heart.

(83) Victory Road theme - Well, duh.

(86) Diantha's theme - Mmm, not as gorgeous as Cynthia's but it has some entertaining quirks!

(87) Kanto Legends theme - Tha nostallllllllllgiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

(89) GTS theme - I have always loved this tune!

AZ/Floette cutscene theme - Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss. This reminds me a lot of some awesome anime theme songs! Not to mention the actual visuals to go along with the music. Yes. My gosh.

I put down 2,900 yen (about $29) for an import of the physical soundtrack.

After looking through the iTunes track listing, I'm actually rather surprised that the Pokémon Origins soundtrack is included, and I'm even more surprised that it's in the international release.

Nothing ruined the epic Gym Leader Last better than whatever that crap was that they deemed a good idea in Unova.

But Kalos' music as a whole just didn't impress me for whatever reason. The only one I really liked was Sycamore's theme, and maaaaybe Lumiose City. Quite unlike Gen 4, when most every song in DPPT/HGSS has been my "favorite" at one point or another.

Idk, maybe it'll grow on me over the next few months.

I could probably sing it if I practised it a few times and could actually sing. But in reality, I might give it a try even though it won't be great. You'll get the gist of it.

I also took it upon myself to translate the lyrics because you're right, they're dissimilar.

French

Corresponding English (not with the rhythm, obviously)

Hasty translation. It's a bit rough. Deal with it.

Si un jour enfin nous prenions le temps
De voir autrement la beauté des gens
D’apprécier la chance de pouvoir côtoyer,
Et de vivre ces années par miracle à leurs côtés.

If we one day take the time to see the beauty of people, we can appreciate the chance we have to stand together, and to live through these wonderful years side by side.

Construisons tous ensemble cette époque de nos rêves.
Saisissons notre chance et pensons à la partager.

Let’s make this dream come true, let’s seize this chance and share it.

Gardons-nous de dérober ce qu’il faut laisser grandir,
Laissons donc s’épanouir les fleurs de la bonté.

Let’s protect what must grow, and let the flowers of kindness bloom.

Offrons tout jusqu’au jour où chacun pourra s’ouvrir
À un monde où plus personne ne sera étranger.

Let’s offer our support until the they day when everyone can be open, when the world is a place where no one is a stranger.

Là où nos chemins se croisaient par pure chance
Peut naître un monde qui fera toujours sens.

Where when our paths cross by chance, it will nurture a world where everything is right.

Un monde où la chaleur, nourrie par la gratitude
Nous fera tous oublier les hivers les plus rudes.

Where warmth, nourished by gratitude, will make us forget the harsh winters.

Où donner fera battre
Le cœur de l’humanité.

Where giving makes the world go 'round.

So I finally went on the GTS for the first time in X and Y. My God the music is beautiful. ;_;

As one of the few people who like Gen. 4 the most out of all games the tune brings back a lot of memories of the hours I spent on the GTS. A great remix. On that same note, the piano rendition of Jubilife City which plays in a house was a sweet addition.

I still prefer the HG/SS soundtrack though, since it has stronger music, even most songs from Kanto are improved. But FR/LG still has a sick champion battle. I'm also glad that both soundtracks include some retro songs as well, since I prefer the retro sounds for a fair amount of songs, specifically the surf theme in HG/SS (my favorite pokemon song of ALL time, btw <3)
